Epic Games Store is giving Bad Cheese away next week. It goes free on Thursday 15 October at 4pm UK time and stays free until 4pm on Thursday 22 October. Claim it during that week and it stays in your Epic library for good. Agent A: A puzzle in disguise, a spy puzzle game set in the sixties, is free on Epic that same week too.
If you were about to buy Bad Cheese, hold on for two days. The only catch is where your copy ends up: on Epic, not on Steam.
What Bad Cheese is about
It is a short first-person psychological horror game drawn like a cartoon from the twenties. You play a little mouse spending the weekend at home with a father whose temper could go either way, while mum is away. The chores sound harmless enough: cleaning up, making chips, killing spiders, taking dad his pills. They don't stay harmless for long. The game is by Simon Lukasik and published by Feardemic.
On Steam, 436 of its 614 reviews are positive. That is 71%, and a "Mostly Positive" rating.
Free on Epic only helps if you play on Epic
The giveaway copy is tied to your Epic account and will never show up in Steam. If you don't mind which launcher you open, there is nothing to weigh up: wait until Thursday and claim it. If every game you own sits in your Steam library, read on.
Don't pay €12.79 for it on Steam
Steam charges €12.79 (no fees), which is its regular price. This morning the cheapest Steam Key is at Kinguin, Global region: €4.26 with coupon OCTGOC10, €4.95 with fees. That saves you almost €8. Gameboost asks €8.09 with GCDK13 (€8.46 with fees), still well below Steam.
Difmark tops the list at €2.51 with coupon Gocdkeys (€2.62 with fees), but that is a Steam Account: a brand new Steam account that already has the game on it. Nothing gets added to the account you use now, so you would have to log into that one to play. If you want Bad Cheese next to the rest of your games, buy the key.
Steam's 50% sale ended on Saturday
We have seen Steam cut Bad Cheese to €6.39 (-50%) three times: at the end of June, at the end of July and from 3 to 10 October. So the most recent sale finished just three days ago. Even so, Kinguin's key at €4.95 with fees beats that sale price.
| Bad Cheese on Steam | Price (no fees) |
|---|---|
| Regular price | €12.79 |
| End of June sale | €6.39 |
| End of July sale | €6.39 |
| 3 to 10 October | €6.39 |
| This morning | €12.79 |
We can't say when Steam will discount it again. If you'd rather wait for that, set a price alert for Bad Cheese and we will email you when it reaches the price you pick.
A couple of things to check first. Only English has full voice acting. The minimum spec is modest: Windows 10, an Intel i3, 8 GB of RAM, a GTX 1660 and 5 GB of disk space.
Every store and format, fees included, is on the page to buy Bad Cheese key.
Prices checked on the morning of 13 October.
