Anyone buying The Elder Scrolls Online now gets a lot more than they would have a week ago. Update 51, released on 19 October, moved the Greymoor chapter and the Wolfhunter DLC into the base game. Season 2 started two days later, and this morning the base game costs less than €2 with fees, which we'd never seen before.
What's in the base game now
From Greymoor you get Western Skyrim, the Antiquities system and Kyne's Aegis, the chapter's 12-player Trial. Wolfhunter adds two dungeons, Moon Hunter Keep and March of Sacrifices.
If you already own the base game, all of it is on your account and you don't pay anything extra. This fits how ESO works now: it runs in seasons instead of the paid chapter ZeniMax used to release every year. For the rest of the DLC, the ESO Plus subscription gives you access for as long as you keep paying.
Season 2: Echoes of Skyrim
The new season started on 21 October and runs until 27 January. It adds a new region in eastern Skyrim, a new season pass and solo versions of Moon Hunter Keep and March of Sacrifices, so the two Wolfhunter dungeons you've just been given can also be done without a group. ZeniMax has already announced another patch with fixes for November.
The cheapest offers this morning
We're seeing 22 offers in stock for PC. The four cheapest are Steam keys:
- K4G, Steam Key: €1.45 with coupon GCDK14DEAL (€1.97 with fees)
- Kinguin, Steam Key: €1.51 with OCTGOC10 (€1.98 with fees)
- Eneba, Steam Key: €1.53 with Gocdkeys10 (€2.20 with fees)
- Gameboost, Steam Key: €2.18 with GCDK13 (€2.29 with fees)
Look twice at Eneba. With the coupon it's almost level with Kinguin, but its fees leave you paying 22 cents more.
In 1,373 days of tracking we'd never seen the game this cheap. The previous low was €2.00 on 23 September, and the median is €4.99 (historical figures don't include fees).
Steam or the ESO launcher?
Before you grab the cheapest, check which kind of key it is. A Steam key is activated on Steam. A Bethesda key is activated in ESO's own launcher. Your game account is a ZeniMax account either way, but you have to choose where you want the game to live.
If you'd rather use the launcher, the cheapest is Key4Games, Bethesda Key: €2.51 (€2.86 with fees). Instant Gaming sells it for €17.29 (no fees) and Greenmangaming for €19.99 (no fees), and there's no reason to pay that today.
Do you need the Deluxe Edition?
No. The Deluxe Edition adds in-game extras, which are cosmetics, but the playable content is the same as in the base game. The cheapest is G2A, Bethesda Key: €22.90 with coupon GCKG2AM4E7H (€23.19 with fees). HRKGame has it at €21.35 with Gocdkeys12 (€23.21 with fees). That's more than ten times what the base game costs.
We'd take the K4G Steam key at €1.97 with fees, or the Key4Games one if you want to play through the launcher. For that money you get Western Skyrim, Kyne's Aegis and both Wolfhunter dungeons. You can buy The Elder Scrolls Online key from its page, or set a price alert if you think it could drop further.
Prices checked on the morning of 26 October.
