Steam's Dying Light franchise sale runs until 26 September, and Dying Light: The Beast is 50% off: €29.99 on Steam, no fees. The Deluxe and Definitive editions are discounted as well, and so are the original Dying Light and Dying Light 2 Stay Human, although we haven't verified the euro figures for any of those.

This time the official store comes out ahead. We compared Steam against every Steam Key in our comparison on the morning of 15 September (06:00 UTC), and once payment fees are added, not one of them gets under €29.99. Prices move daily, so that could change before the sale ends.

Kyle Crane's standalone return, almost a year on

Techland released The Beast almost a year ago. Kyle Crane, who led the first Dying Light, is back in a standalone adventure with the infected, parkour and a beast mode. Players and critics have both taken to it: it's Very Positive on Steam (51,542 positive reviews, 7,702 negative) and averages 82 on OpenCritic from 45 reviews, with 87% of critics recommending it.

Steam against the resellers, fees included

Until 13 September, Steam was charging €59.99, and in the summer sale (25 June to 11 August) it went down to €39.59. At €29.99 it has now slipped below every reseller selling Steam Keys.

The closest is Driffle, at €30.97 with the coupon GOCDKEYS10 (€32.49 with fees) for a Europe-region Steam Key, which is €2.50 more than Steam. K4G is the one that catches people out. It shows €29.90 with the coupon GCDK14DEAL, nine cents under Steam, but fees take it to €32.84, €2.85 more.

Gifts and shared accounts: the only routes below Steam

Steam gifts are the first. The cheapest, Driffle's at €23.81 with the coupon GOCDKEYS10 (€25.07 with fees), is a US-region gift and won't activate on a European account, so ignore it if you're in Europe. Driffle's global gift is €27.08 with the same coupon (€28.46 with fees), €1.53 less than Steam. Gamivo also has a gift at €27.33 with the coupon GCDKGamivo (€29.28 with fees), 71 cents under, and that one is global too.

Shared accounts go much lower, from €13.60 at Difmark with the coupon Gocdkeys (€14.21 with fees) to €17.62 at Kinguin with the coupon SEPGOC10 (€19.37 with fees). A shared account means playing on somebody else's Steam login. The game isn't yours, and access can be withdrawn.

What our history says about waiting

Since last October, the lowest we've recorded at the Steam Key stores (without fees or coupons) is around €30.50: CJS-CDKeys at €30.53 and Driffle at €31.33, both on 4 September. The keys have never clearly dropped below €30, and Steam has just gone under that mark. We can't tell you whether it will fall further, and nothing in our data points that way.

If you play on Xbox or PS5

On Xbox, Gamivo has the cheapest Europe-region Xbox key at €24.99 with the coupon GCDKGamivo (€26.85 with fees), with Eneba next at €25.16 with the coupon Gocdkeys10 (€27.87 with fees). Xbox shared accounts start at €11.74, no fees, at GamesPSN. On PS5, the PlayStation Store lists it at €34.99, no fees; we can't confirm whether that's a sale price.

On PC I'd just buy it on Steam before 26 September. If you want to compare the reseller offers first, you can buy Dying Light: The Beast key through our page, but hold each total with fees up against €29.99 before you pay.
