Bandai Namco is closing the book on Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2. The 10th anniversary update comes out today, Tuesday 27 October, and on the 29th the Final Festival of Universes begins, an in-game event that hands out a gi and a medal you can carry over to Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3. After that, there's no more paid content planned: FUTURE SAGA Chapter 4 was the last DLC.
Here's what each part brings, what you need to own to take part, and which version is worth buying on PC if you've been meaning to get back into it.
The anniversary update is free, with one exception
Today's update costs nothing. It adds login rewards and special outfits, and it changes the Gallery of Time.
The catch is that last part: the new Gallery of Time content only works if you own FUTURE SAGA Chapter 4, which is paid DLC. The login rewards and outfits don't need anything beyond the game.
When the Final Festival of Universes starts
According to Bandai Namco America's announcement, the festival opens on 29 October at 5pm Pacific time. That's midnight in the UK and 1am on 30 October in Spain, France or Germany. Bandai Namco hasn't said when it ends yet, so we wouldn't leave it until the last weekend.
Artwork, Star Coins and hard-to-get items
Raising your friendship with Trunks, the Supreme Kai of Time or Fu during the festival unlocks anniversary artwork. Items that are normally hard to get come back for the event, and Star Coins drop at a higher rate than usual.
You also earn a special gi and a commemorative medal. Those two are the ones to care about if you plan on playing the sequel.
What carries over to Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3
If you link a Bandai Namco ID, the festival gi and medal unlock bonuses in Xenoverse 3. Bandai Namco hasn't said what those bonuses are.
Xenoverse 3 was announced during the Dragon Ball Games Battle Hour and is due next year on PS5, Xbox Series and PC. There's no release date or price yet.
So if you have a save file sitting around from years ago, the festival is the moment to log back in, link the ID and pick up both items before the event closes.
Base game, Deluxe Edition or Super Pass on PC
The festival is free content inside the game, so the base game is all you need for the gi, the medal and everything else in the event. None of the passes are required. The only paid extra that matters this week is Chapter 4, and only for the new Gallery of Time; we don't have it in our catalogue, so we can't give you a price for it.
The base game is at a very good price this morning. Gameboost has the Steam key for €3.28 with coupon GCDK13 (€3.44 with fees). Its median over 1,159 days of tracking is €5.47 and the lowest was €2.00 on 26 June (both without fees); it has been cheaper than today on only 21 of those days.
The Deluxe Edition, which adds the first Season Pass to the game, is the real surprise: €6.03 (no fees) at YUPLAY as a Steam key. Its median is €22.20 without fees, and it has only been cheaper on 13 of 1,648 days. If you want the early DLC as well, that's less than three euros more than the base game.
The Super Pass is a different story. Gamivo has it at €7.13 with coupon GCDKGamivo (€8.37 with fees), barely under its €8.45 median, and it went as low as €2.49 on 20 May (both without fees). You don't need it for the festival, so there's no reason to buy it this week.
If you only want to play the festival, buy Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 key for the base game; if you want the extra content too, the Deluxe is the better deal.
Ten years of support end here
Xenoverse 2 came out on consoles in October ten years ago, and Bandai Namco now considers its content plan finished. This festival is the farewell.
What we still don't know: the date the festival ends, what the bonuses in Xenoverse 3 actually are, and how much Xenoverse 3 will cost. If you'd rather wait for the Super Pass to drop again, set a price alert on it.
Prices checked on the morning of 27 October.
