A few sites have been calling Dragon Age: The Veilguard a bargain on PC this week. On Steam it's down to €20.99 (no fees) from €59.99 until 7pm Spanish time today, 8 October, when the autumn sale ends. That's a real discount. It just isn't a rare one, and it isn't the cheapest this game has been.
Where Veilguard is cheapest this morning
The cheapest key we're tracking is at G2A: an EA App Key for the Standard Edition at €20.25 with the coupon GCKG2AT6V1P (€20.54 with fees). Steam's sale price is €20.99 (no fees), so the key saves you 45 cents.
EA app or Steam library: which one do you want it in?
With 45 cents in it, this is the part that actually decides things. The G2A key is redeemed in the EA app, not on Steam. The game goes on your EA account and you launch it from the EA app. Buy it on Steam instead and it sits in your Steam library with everything else.
If you already keep your EA games in the EA app, take the key. If your whole collection lives on Steam, paying the extra 45 cents there is perfectly reasonable.
Why we would skip the €4.64 Difmark account
Sort the offers by price and Difmark comes out on top at €4.44 with the coupon Gocdkeys (€4.64 with fees). That's a Steam Account: you get the login for somebody else's Steam account that happens to have the game on it. Nothing is added to your own library, and if the original owner takes the account back, the game goes with it. We don't recommend it, cheap as it looks.
How low has Veilguard actually gone?
Historical figures here are store prices without fees or coupons. The lowest we've recorded for a key is €6.60, on 8 May. Today the cheapest key is over €20 even after the coupon, so it's sitting at roughly three times that low.
You may also see figures of €5 to €6 floating around. Our monthly lows across all formats were €6.49 in April and May, €6.19 from June to August, €5.99 in September and €5.29 so far in October (no fees), but those mix accounts in with keys. Don't read them as key prices.
Steam keeps coming back to €20.99
Steam's own price history (no fees) is the strongest argument for not rushing:
| Dates | Steam price |
|---|---|
| Early July | €17.99 |
| From 11 July | €59.99 |
| 31 July to 14 August | €20.99 |
| Until mid-September | €59.99 |
| 15 to 29 September | €20.99 |
| 30 September and 1 October | €59.99 |
| Since 2 October | €20.99 |
That's the same €20.99 three times since the end of July, and €17.99 back in July. If it goes back to €59.99 tonight, history says it probably won't stay there long, though nobody can promise when the next drop comes.
Is the game worth €20 to you?
Veilguard is BioWare's RPG, published by Electronic Arts. Steam players are split: the rating is "Mixed", with 27,798 of 41,490 reviews positive (67%). Critics liked it more. On OpenCritic it has a median score of 80, a "Strong" tier, and 71% of critics recommend it.
So, buy today or wait?
At €20.54 with fees, the key is not a bargain next to the €6.60 (no fees or coupons) it hit in May. If you're in no hurry, set a price alert and we'll email you when it drops.
If you want to play this week, it barely matters which you pick: EA App key at G2A or Steam, the gap is 45 cents. Choose the launcher you prefer. All current offers, fees included, are on the page to buy Dragon Age: The Veilguard key.
