Capcom releases Dark Arisen, the first expansion for Dragon's Dogma 2, this Friday, 9 October, on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Steam. It is also the day the game reaches Nintendo Switch 2 for the first time, although there it only comes as the complete package with the base game included.

Officially there are two ways in. The expansion on its own costs $29.99 and needs the base game. The Dragon's Dogma 2: Dark Arisen bundle, with both, costs $49.99. On Steam the expansion is listed at €29.99 (no fees).

What the expansion adds

The story moves to Norgan, a frozen region in the north that has been abandoned for a long time. There you team up with Eir, who is hunting a heartless Fallen Dragon. Along the way you dig up old relics and have them appraised, which is how you unlock new weapons and skills.

On top of that come 12 Lost Rites dungeon challenges, each hiding rare gear that once belonged to past Arisen. The character creator also gets new hairstyles and tattoos.

You already own Dragon's Dogma 2

Then all you need is the expansion. The cheapest copy in our comparison this morning is a Steam Key at Eneba: €19.82 with coupon Gocdkeys10 (€22.07 with fees). It is a pre-order, so the key is delivered when the expansion comes out. Compared with Steam, that is €7.92 less with fees paid.

The Steam Gifts we track are dearer than the keys, so there is no reason to go that way. Our history for the expansion only starts on 8 July, when pre-orders opened. Its usual price is around €22.50 and the lowest we have recorded is €22.02, both shop prices without fees or coupons. Eneba's €22.02 before the coupon equals that low.

If you would rather pay less, set a price alert and we will email you when it drops. All the shops are on the page to buy Dragon's Dogma 2: Dark Arisen key.

You don't have the game yet

Here the official bundle at $49.99 is the obvious option on consoles. On PC, buying the two parts separately works out a lot cheaper. The base game costs €39.99 (no fees) on Steam, but the best key this morning is at Driffle: €10.13 with coupon GOCDKEYS10 (€10.90 with fees), Steam Key. Add the expansion key from Eneba and you have everything for €32.97 with fees.

You will also see Difmark selling the base game for €7.13 with coupon Gocdkeys (€7.45 with fees), but that is a Steam Account: you get access to someone else's account, not a game of your own, and it can be taken back at any time. We recommend the key. You can compare every option for the base game on the page to buy Dragon's Dogma 2 key.

One thing worth knowing before you jump in: Steam reviews for the base game are Mixed, with 62% of 77,030 positive. Much of that criticism dates from launch.

Free updates for everyone

Not everything new is behind the expansion. The 9 June update added the Eternal Ferrystone, a reusable ferrystone that makes fast travel far less of a chore, along with other quality-of-life tweaks. The one at the end of August improved frame rates and added more save slots. Both are free and already part of the base game.

Prices checked on the morning of 7 October.
