Rise of New Champions (2020) was built around the manga's school-tournament arc: a story campaign following Tsubasa, a second campaign where you created your own player, and a roster drawn largely from the school and club sides of the series. World Fighters moves the framing up a level.
- Scale and focus of the roster. The headline change is size: 22 national teams and more than 110 playable characters, with over 150 animated special moves. The first game's line-up was smaller and centred on school sides rather than international ones.
- National teams instead of school sides. The subtitle is the pitch — this one is built around the world tournament, which is a different fantasy from the school-tournament framing of the original.
- Shooting becomes a duel. The clearest mechanical change shown so far: every shot on goal turns into a direct confrontation between shooter and goalkeeper, instead of resolving as a single contested action.
- Same arcade DNA. This is not a football simulation and does not try to be. Super moves for dribbling, tackling, passing and shooting remain the core, so if the original's over-the-top tone was the appeal, that has not changed.
What is not confirmed yet: Bandai Namco has not detailed the full mode list ahead of release, so how the story and online offerings compare with the first game's campaigns and ranked play is still open.
