Psychological horror is one of the cheapest shelves on Xbox, and it is also the one where the first price you see lies to you most often. We hold 113 Xbox pages tagged as psychological horror with at least one live offer. On 99 of them, the lowest figure on the page is not a copy of the game.
It is the login to an account that belongs to a stranger, with the game already inside it. So every entry below carries two numbers: the cheapest advert on the page and the cheapest Xbox code you redeem yourself. On Resident Evil 7 the two sit 77 cents apart. On Visage the code costs twenty-three times what the advert above it asks.
Ninety-nine pages out of 113 open with a stranger's password
Buying an account means signing into somebody else's profile. The game never becomes yours, you cannot gift it or resell it, and the day the seller changes the password you are locked out. Plenty of people buy them knowing exactly that, and fair enough. What is not fair is letting you believe €1.20 buys you Visage.

Run, hide, and watch the battery
Outlast 2 is the loudest of the lot and the usual way in. Red Barrels, 48,707 positive reviews out of 54,119, and a page that starts at €1.49 with an account. The first code that lands in your own library costs €4.10 at Gaming Dragons, Global region, from twelve live offers.
The Outlast Trials takes the same running and hiding into co-op and is the better reviewed of the two: 83,313 positive out of 90,558, with 38 offers across twelve stores. The advert on top asks €4.40 for an account; an Eneba code for Europe is €9.81.
Amnesia: The Bunker locks you in a First World War tunnel network with a generator you keep having to feed. Frictional Games, 9,526 positive from 10,243. Account at €2.09, code at €12.75 from Gaming Dragons, Global, out of sixteen offers.
Visage is the widest gap of the twenty-four and the reason this article gives two prices. A house, several chapters, 7,423 positive reviews out of 8,733, and a first line of €1.20 that is an account. The cheapest real code is Eneba's Europe one at €27.99, from eight offers.
MADiSON does its scaring with an instant camera and a very small flat. BLOODIOUS GAMES, 2,611 positive of 3,001. The account costs €3.60 and the Eneba code for Europe €14.95, out of ten offers.
Darkwood looks down on you from above and still manages to be the tensest thing here after dark. Acid Wizard Studio, 20,849 positive of 22,180. Its page is one of only two in this article with no account on it: two offers, the cheaper a CDKeys code for Europe at €4.59.
The ones that hand you a weapon and scare you anyway
Resident Evil 7 Biohazard is the best reviewed game on this page: 82,992 positive out of 87,360, which Steam calls Overwhelmingly Positive. CAPCOM, 36 offers across 19 stores, an account at €5.80 and an Eneba code for Europe at €6.57. Seventy-seven cents between them, the one case here where the account saves you nothing.
Dead Space Remake is Motive's rebuild of the Ishimura, 56,337 positive of 62,597. The lowest advert is an account at €5.85; the code is €10.49 at CDKeys for Europe, and the Deluxe sits at €11.89 in the same shop, so the upgrade costs €1.40. Thirty-nine offers.
The Evil Within 2 opens up Tango Gameworks' first game into something closer to a small open world. 17,961 positive of 19,737. Account €2.19, Driffle code for Europe €7.36, eighteen offers from seventeen different stores.
SILENT HILL f is the newest and by some distance the most expensive: 42 offers from sixteen stores, an account at €19.60 and a Kinguin code at €35.00 tied to the United States. NeoBards Entertainment, 14,875 positive out of 18,594.
CONSCRIPT is survival horror in the trenches, made almost single-handed by Jordan Mochi, with 1,779 positive of 1,977. It is also one of the cheap ones: €1.07 for the account, €6.61 for the HRKGame code for Europe, twelve offers.
Alone in the Dark is the one to think twice about: 2,547 positive out of 3,308 from Pieces Interactive, and a price that holds better than any of its neighbours: €14.99 the account, €17.66 the Driffle code for Europe, from 21 offers.
Horror with nothing chasing you
SOMA asks what you are once your copy wakes up somewhere else, and it does it at the bottom of the sea. Frictional Games again, 44,240 positive of 46,568, Overwhelmingly Positive. Account €6.99, code €11.90 at Eneba for the United States, seventeen offers.
What Remains of Edith Finch is the cheapest game in this article and one of the best liked: 44,501 positive out of 46,843. A house, a family, one death per room. The advert at the top is €0.80 and it is an account; the Eneba code for Europe is €5.64, from eight offers.
Still Wakes the Deep puts The Chinese Room on a Scottish oil rig with no weapons and a lot of wind. 9,637 positive of 11,077. Account €4.29, Eneba code for Europe €7.73, eleven offers.
Senua's Saga: Hellblade II is Ninja Theory's follow-up, 8,028 positive of 9,335, with 33 offers across sixteen stores. The account is €3.70 and the Driffle code for Europe €13.36.
In Sound Mind walks you through a therapist's cassette tapes, one patient at a time. We Create Stuff, 5,177 positive out of 5,449, the highest ratio in this article. Account €2.99, Eneba code for Europe €6.50, twelve offers.
Yuppie Psycho sets its horror inside an office where your first task is worse than a spreadsheet. Baroque Decay, 7,579 positive of 7,978. Two offers, neither of them an account: the G2A code for Europe at €8.45 is what there is.
The strange ones, where the atmosphere does the work
Scorn is Ebb Software's bone-and-flesh corridor, admired and disliked in similar quantities: 11,147 positive out of 14,477, Mostly Positive. Account €1.19, Gaming Dragons code €12.75 for the Global region, eleven offers.
Blair Witch gives you a forest, a torch and a dog. Bloober Team, 5,008 positive of 6,420, also Mostly Positive. The gap here is small: €3.99 the account, €5.18 the Eneba code for Europe, thirteen offers from twelve stores.
Song of Horror rotates a cast of characters and kills them for good. Protocol Games, 1,542 positive of 1,928, and only four live offers, which shows in the price: €8.50 the account and €22.02 the Eneba code for Europe.
Kholat walks the Dyatlov Pass and is the one game here players do not agree on: 1,363 positive out of 2,034, which Steam labels Mixed. It also has the cheapest real code in the article, €2.94 at Eneba for the United States, 24 cents above the account at €2.70.
ROUTINE is Lunar Software's moon base with the wrong kind of retro future in it, 6,563 positive of 7,212. Three offers, and the account is the dearest of them: Difmark wants €17.49 for it, while the cheapest entry is an Eneba code at €14.79 for the United States.
Pathologic 3 hands you a plague, a town and not enough hours. Ice-Pick Lodge, 2,015 positive of 2,519. Four offers: the Kinguin code costs €10.14 for the United States, and the Difmark account sitting above it €14.99.
Two pages with no borrowed login, and five codes that want a US account
Darkwood and Yuppie Psycho are the only two pages here where nobody is selling a login: two offers each, both of them codes you redeem yourself. ROUTINE and Pathologic 3 do have an account on the page, and in neither case is it the cheap way in. Difmark asks €17.49 for the ROUTINE login, more than either code on that same page, and €14.99 for the Pathologic 3 one, which lands €4.85 above the Kinguin code.
The region tag is the other thing to read before paying. The cheapest real code for SILENT HILL f, SOMA, Kholat, ROUTINE and Pathologic 3 is tied to the United States, and Amnesia: The Bunker has a US-locked code as its second option too. An Xbox code from another region may not redeem on a European account, so check the tag on the offer, not just the number.

Never played any of them? Take the best reviewed one and the smallest gap on the page: buy Resident Evil 7 Biohazard key at €6.57 and stop thinking about it. On a tight budget, What Remains of Edith Finch at €5.64 and Blair Witch at €5.18 are the safest cheap codes here, and Kholat drops to €2.94 as long as you know its reviews come out Mixed and the code is a US one.
For a scare with no weapon, Outlast 2 at €4.10 and Darkwood at €4.59 cost less between them than a cinema ticket. And the one people talk about for weeks is Visage, where a copy costs €27.99. Better to pay that knowingly than to pay €1.20 and find out afterwards.
