Planning to pick up Aeterna Lucis in December and wondering whether to play Aeterna Noctis before it? Money won't be the problem. This morning the Steam Key for the first game started at €1.78 with coupon SEAL17CKD (€2.32 with fees), and our records, which leave fees out, show it hovering around €2 for six months.
What Aeternum Game Studios has announced
Aeternum Game Studios has set 3 December as the release date for Aeterna Lucis, the sequel to Aeterna Noctis. It's coming to PC through Steam, and to PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and Switch. The announced price is €24.99. The sequel isn't in our catalogue yet, so that's the only figure we can give you for it.
The studio took an extra year of development, and this is what it says that time went into:
- exploration with no loading screens
- real-time dynamic lighting
- a drawn, illustrated map in place of a schematic one
- two difficulty modes: Aeterna, which puts the story first, and Lucis, the demanding one
Aeterna Noctis, briefly
The first game is a hard 2D metroidvania, and most of that difficulty sits in platforming that demands very precise jumps. It comes from Aeternum Game Studios, a Spanish company. On Steam it's rated Mostly Positive, from 1,289 positive and 407 negative reviews, which works out at roughly one negative review in every four.
Six months at around €2
Our history for the Steam Key has a median of €3.28 and a lowest recorded price of €2.00, on 25 February. Neither figure includes payment fees.

Apart from a summer dip, it has barely moved since spring. Keep in mind these numbers sit slightly below what you'd pay at checkout, because the fee isn't in them.
Buy it today or wait for December?
You might expect the sequel's announcement to push the first game lower. There's very little room left for that. At these prices, buying today instead of on 3 December is a difference of cents.
Compare that with Steam, where Aeterna Noctis costs €29.99 with no fees. Green Man Gaming and Humble Bundle also sell the Steam version at €29.99, no fees. Against those, the key offers save you more than 90%.
There's also the calendar. The sequel is nearly three months away, which is plenty of time to get through the first game if you start soon.
