DayZ Badlands has been out since 15 October on PC (Steam) and Xbox Series X|S, released together with the free 1.30 update. It's a paid expansion, so you need DayZ itself to play it. On PC the cheapest offer this morning is a Steam Key at Cdkeys Com: €20.99 (no fees), a little under the €22.49 (no fees) that Steam charges during its launch discount.
Nasdara Province, the biggest map Bohemia has made for DayZ
Badlands takes you to Nasdara Province, 267 km² of desert west of Chernarus, on the edge of Takistan. Bohemia says it's the largest official DayZ map so far. Here the enemy is heat rather than cold: sandstorms and hours in the sun can give you heat stroke, wells are few and far between, and you need water to cool down and rinse the sand out of your eyes as well as to drink. You can build utility structures such as wells, and there's new wildlife: mouflons, desert monitor lizards and packs of territorial wild dogs.
What you need to own before buying the expansion
Badlands is DLC. The Steam page says it outright: it requires the base game DayZ on Steam. On Xbox it works the same way. If you already play DayZ, you only need the expansion. If you're starting from scratch, that's two purchases.
Part of what arrived on 15 October is free for everyone with update 1.30, whether you buy Badlands or not: two motorbikes (a moped and an enduro, found mostly in Nasdara), digital code locks for bases that also work on the old maps, and a reworked inventory. Official servers were wiped with the update on every platform, so everybody started again from nothing.
For a new PC player, the cheapest DayZ key this morning is a Steam Key at Gameseal: €20.28 with coupon SEAL17CKD (€22.80 with fees). Add Badlands at €20.99 (no fees) and the pair comes to €43.79. Difmark sells DayZ for less, €12.17 with coupon Gocdkeys (€12.72 with fees), but that's a Steam Account, not a key: you get a separate account with the game on it, not a copy in your own library. All the offers for the base game are on our DayZ page.
Badlands on PC: Steam Key or the Steam store
Only two offers for the PC expansion are in stock today, and both end up in your Steam library. Cdkeys Com sells the Steam Key for €20.99 (no fees). Steam has it at €22.49 (no fees) thanks to a 10% launch discount that ends on 29 October. That's €1.50 in favour of the key now, and the gap will grow once Steam goes back to full price. The key activates on Steam like any other, so redeem it on the same account where you have DayZ.
Xbox and PS5: only accounts for now
None of the stores we compare has an Xbox key for Badlands. What they sell are console accounts: Key4Games asks €28.89 with coupon GOCDKEYS15 (€30.45 with fees) and Difmark €33.59 with coupon Gocdkeys (€35.10 with fees). An account isn't a code you redeem on your own gamertag. The seller gives you access to an account that already has the expansion, so check how the store expects you to use it with your copy of DayZ before you pay. We don't have the Microsoft Store price for Badlands, but you can buy it there and it stays on your own profile. Our Badlands page for Xbox will show keys as soon as a store lists one.
The base game on Xbox does come as a key: Gamivo has it for €16.27 with coupon GCDKGamivo (€17.83 with fees), for the European region, while the Microsoft Store charges €54.99 (no fees). Those offers are on the DayZ for Xbox page.
PS5 is less clear. It was part of the original plans, and Key4Games and Difmark already list PS5 accounts at the same prices as on Xbox, but the 15 October launch was announced for PC and Xbox and we haven't been able to confirm the expansion on the PlayStation Store. If you play on PS5, set an alert on the PS5 page and we'll let you know when something worth buying turns up.
Will it get cheaper?
There isn't much to go on yet. Bohemia had only promised it would cost under $25, and the first real prices appeared in launch week. Instant Gaming listed the key at €18.49 from 14 October, the day before release, and has since sold out. Cdkeys Com opened at €21.99 and has already dropped to €20.99. Like all our historical figures, these are without fees.
If you're on PC and want to play now, €20.99 for the key is the lowest price available and saves you a little over Steam even during its discount. If you'd rather wait for a store to get back to the €18.49 Instant Gaming was asking, set a price alert for DayZ Badlands and we'll email you when it reaches the price you choose. Every offer, fees included, is on the page to buy DayZ Badlands key.
Prices checked on the morning of 18 October.
