11 bit studios has announced The Surge, the third and last story DLC for Frostpunk 2. It comes out on 14 December on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series, and its price hasn't been announced yet.
With the final piece now dated, the question for anyone who hasn't bought the game is simple: the base game on its own, the base game plus the two expansions already out, or the Deluxe bundle on Steam? We did the maths with this morning's prices.
What The Surge brings
A new scenario takes you on a journey to an unexplored valley where a powerful relic lies. You'll deal with two new rival factions and explore caves and abandoned ruins. There's also a new resource that lets you pull energy out of blizzards, more automation, and new buildings that 11 bit hasn't described yet.
It follows Fractured Utopias and Breach of Trust. The base game sits at Mostly Positive on Steam: 74% of 21,120 reviews.
Base game plus both expansions as keys
- Frostpunk 2 (base game): €3.67 with coupon GCDKGamivo (€4.55 with fees), Steam Key at Gamivo.

Steam has a sale on too. The Deluxe bundle (the game plus the Deluxe Edition Upgrade) is €31.71 (no fees), 58% off €74.98. Bought one by one on Steam, the three come to €39.72 (no fees): the game at €20.24, Fractured Utopias at €9.09 (30% off €12.99) and Breach of Trust at €10.39 (20% off €12.99).
Will the Deluxe include The Surge?
Steam's store page says the Deluxe Edition "will be a complete package" once the last DLC is out. That points to The Surge being added, but the page doesn't list which DLCs the Deluxe contains today, so treat it as likely rather than confirmed.
The keys cost €14.31 less than the Deluxe. If The Surge ends up cheaper than that, buying everything separately still wins. The two earlier DLCs list at €12.99 each on Steam, but nobody knows yet what this one will cost.
How today's prices compare with their history
The base key is about as low as it gets. Its historical median is €38.79 and the lowest we've recorded is €3.52 on 13 October (both no fees). There are 108 offers in stock.
Breach of Trust has dropped below its previous low of €4.66 (no fees) from 22 October; its median is €7.89. Fractured Utopias is the one with room to fall: median €9.44, and it hit €4.63 at the end of June (no fees).
You'll also find a Steam Account at Key4Games for €2.16 with coupon GOCDKEYS15 (€2.51 with fees). We'd go for the key: the account is a login to someone else's Steam profile, and the game never ends up in your own library.
What we'd do
If you only want to try it, the base key at €3.67 (€4.55 with fees) is the easy call: every offer is on the page to buy Frostpunk 2 key. If you already know you want the lot, take the base game and Breach of Trust now while they're at their lows, and put a price alert on Fractured Utopias. Leave the Deluxe until 11 bit confirms what's in it and The Surge has a price.
