Dive into an enchanting underwater adventure with Disney Dreamlight Valley: The Keepsake Sea, a paid expansion that transforms the beloved life simulation into a seafaring odyssey. A mysterious statue appears in the water with a message of a lost friend, prompting you to embark on a thrilling adventure beyond the coast and transform into magical merfolk to dive into the depths below. Three new island biomes await exploration: Shipwreck Shores, Candy Cove, and the Kingdom of Oublie, each with their own underwater areas.

The expansion's core gameplay loop centers on progressing through the story to gain a new mermaid form and the ability to swim in Dreamlight Valley's oceans and interact with whirlpools that take you to the world under the waves, with new movement and harvesting mechanics. The development team prioritized keeping gameplay stress-free, with no oxygen management or time limits underwater. Customize your Merfolk form with different ears, fins, arms, torsos, and tail patterns, with color options, and interact with villagers and the environment in new ways for Photo Mode and DreamSnaps.

Key mechanical additions include an Enchanted Pirate Ship that you unlock and can customize with your own sail and flag, bringing up to two Villagers as crewmates. Underwater building and decorating extends homeownership below the waves with unique mechanics like suspending furniture above the sea floor and adjusting the altitude of underwater platforms for three-dimensional space. Harvest fish and ocean-based items in your mermaid form without using the fishing minigame.

The expansion distinguishes itself through its comprehensive underwater world-building and character roster. Befriend five new villagers including cartographer Milo Thatch, Captain Jack Sparrow, Megara, Wendy, and Captain Hook, plus Dory as your first Adventure Companion. Dory helps players navigate underwater and find items beneath the sea, traveling inside a bubble on land similar to other aquatic characters.

The Keepsake Sea appeals to both longtime Dreamlight Valley fans seeking fresh gameplay systems and players drawn to cozy life simulation with ocean exploration themes. The expansion balances relaxation with discovery, maintaining the series' stress-free philosophy while introducing meaningful new mechanics that expand creative and exploratory possibilities.
