Borderlands 3 is sold on PC as four separate products: the base game, the Super Deluxe, the Ultimate and the Director's Cut on its own. Three of them overlap, and picking between them has a clear answer today. It is not the one the page order suggests.

Gearbox's looter shooter still holds a 78 on Metacritic. Co-op for four, an absurd number of guns, a campaign that outlasts most. The base game page carries 74 live offers from 20 stores.

The cheapest number is a Steam account, not a licence

Sort by cheapest and the first thing you meet is €1.73 at G2A, tagged Steam Account. That is not a licence. You get somebody else's login, and every hour you put in sits on a shelf you do not control. The code comes first, always. When the smallest figure on a page turns out to be an account, we would rather say so than let it sell the page for us.

The first real code is K4G at €2.49, sold as a Steam Key. Then K4G again at €2.56, Kinguin at €2.63, Driffle at €2.68, Kinguin at €2.70, Driffle and Eneba both at €2.72, Eneba at €2.73, Gameseal at €2.79, HRKGame at €2.80, Gamivo at €2.84. Every one of those is a Steam Key. As we publish, the cheapest is 2.45 (with coupon GOCDKEYS10) at Driffle. If the campaign is all you are after, that is the whole decision: buy Borderlands 3 key and off you go.

Twenty cents separate buying the pieces from taking the Ultimate

Here is the arithmetic that decides it. Base game, €2.49. Director's Cut on its own from €6.31 at G2A, with Kinguin at €6.32 and Gamivo at €6.50 right behind, out of 17 offers across 9 stores. Buy the two apart and you have spent €8.80 on the campaign plus one add-on, with neither season pass.

The Ultimate Edition starts at €9.00, at Eneba, as a Steam Key. Twenty cents more than the pieces, and inside it there is the base game, both season passes and the Director's Cut.

Twenty cents for two season passes. Nobody arranged that; four products came down at different speeds until they landed within a few cents of each other, and it will not stay this way for long.

Between the Super Deluxe and the Ultimate there is no debate

The Super Deluxe starts at €8.99 at Eneba, also a Steam Key. One cent under the Ultimate. For that cent you hand back the second season pass and the Director's Cut, and keep only the base game and the first pass.

Line up the offers that actually carry an edition label and the picture holds. The cheapest Deluxe Ed. is CDKeys at €9.09, then K4G at €9.26, Kinguin at €9.32 and Gamivo at €9.39, from 30 offers across 12 stores. The cheapest tagged Ultimate is Kinguin at €9.24, followed by Gamivo at €10.18, G2A at €11.40 and CDKeys at €14.69, from 19 offers across 10 stores. There is no way of reading these numbers that makes the Super Deluxe the right buy.

One quirk worth knowing before you click. The base game page does not only hold base game offers: K4G has an Ultimate there at €9.44 and Gameseal one at €9.49, with Deluxe Ed. offers from Kinguin at €10.45. All genuine, all more expensive than the same editions on their own pages. Forty-four cents, in the case of that K4G Ultimate.

Where the base game has been these past months

Our own record has its monthly low sliding for half a year: €2.95, then €2.96, then €2.28, then €2.00, and €1.73 this month. Careful with that last one, because it is the account. Real codes open at €2.49 today.

The Ultimate is the one that moved. Its monthly low had never gone below €14.34 in anything we have stored, so €9.00 is the lowest we have seen on it across five months, and that drop is what parked it beside the pieces. The full price history shows the slope.

Already own the base game? Then buy the add-on alone

Before you pay: the season passes and the Director's Cut are DLC. They need the base game on the same account or they do nothing at all. If Borderlands 3 is already in your library, skip the Ultimate and take the Director's Cut on its own from €6.31, instead of paying for the campaign twice.

Short version. Empty library and you want everything: the Ultimate at €9.00. Empty library and only the campaign appeals: the base game from €2.49. Campaign finished long ago: the Director's Cut alone. The Super Deluxe, at these numbers, has nobody left to sell to.
