Hinterland put the word out on 1 September: Blackfrost, the survival game it has been building, pushes its early access to next year. The studio pointed at an unsteady moment for the industry, and said the extra time goes back into The Long Dark.
Announcements like that send people to the shops. So we looked at ours, and what you pay depends less on the game than on the machine you play it on.
Steam files it as Very Positive, with 97,908 of the 110,009 reviews in the green, 89% of them.
5.77 € on PC, and the runner-up asks 55% more
Ten stores, 31 live offers, everything between 5.77 € and 32.55 €. At the bottom of that range is Steam’s own shop at 5.77 €, with thirty reseller offers stacked above it.
Second place belongs to Itemku at 8.93 €, which is 55% more for the same Standard edition. After that the numbers climb steadily: G2A at 12.45 €, Gamivo at 13.82 €, Kinguin at 14.05 €, Driffle at 14.37 €.

The expensive end: two editions, three gifts and GOG
Two of the offers are not the Standard edition at all. Eneba has the Survivors Edition at 13.50 € and Driffle the Special Edition at 15.21 €, which is worth knowing if you sort by price and click the first thing you see.
Further up sit three Steam Gift offers: 24.13 € and 32.14 € at G2A, 24.99 € at Kinguin. A gift is bought on somebody else’s account and sent to yours as a present, no code ever passes through your hands, and here it costs more than any Steam code on the page.
The single dearest offer is GOG’s, 32.55 € for the DRM-free build. Fair enough if an installer you keep on your own drive is the reason you are buying.
Xbox: 4.50 € for a login, 18.18 € for the game
Nine offers across Xbox One and Series. The first is Difmark at 4.50 €, the lowest figure anywhere on this game on any platform, and it is not a purchase. It is an account that belongs to someone else, and you are paying to log into it.
The first code you redeem on your own profile is Kinguin’s, at 18.18 €. Then 18.56 € at Kinguin again, 18.82 € at Eneba, 19.01 € at Gamivo, 23.11 € and 30.33 € at G2A. Microsoft’s own store asks 31.49 €.
Two offers on PS5, one price, two different purchases
PS5 has 10.19 € from the PlayStation Store and 10.19 € from Difmark. Identical to the cent. One of the two leaves the game in your library; the other hands you credentials on a profile you do not control.
PS4 and Switch have one offer each, and neither is a copy
On PS4 we hold exactly one offer, Difmark at 20.99 €. On Switch, exactly one, Difmark at 28.99 €. Both are accounts. We do not have a single redeemable code for either machine today.

The 5.77 € is not a new low
We hold 3,952 price readings for this game. Through June and up to 10 July the floor was 5.77 €, and Steam was behind it then as well. Across August the cheapest offer moved to Itemku, between 8.76 € and 8.93 €, day after day, ending at 8.76 € on 31 August.
April and May bottomed out at 6.34 €. Today’s figure is early summer coming round again rather than a discount the game has never seen.
How long Steam keeps it there we have no way of knowing, and we are not going to invent a deadline.
