A listing at around a third of what the main game costs looks like the bargain of the month until you read the small print: Revelations is not a copy of DOOM: The Dark Ages. It is the campaign expansion, and it will not launch on its own. That single fact reorders the whole comparison, so it is worth settling before you buy DOOM The Dark Ages Revelations on PC.
An expansion, not a second edition of the game
id Software built Revelations as extra campaign content for the base release, published by Bethesda with a 19,99 € list price on Steam — roughly a quarter of what the main game asks. The gap is not a discount and it is not a trick: they are simply two different products that happen to share a name on the shelf.
What you need installed before the code is any use
- DOOM: The Dark Ages itself. Without the base game on the same account, the expansion has nothing to attach to.
- The same platform for both. A code redeemed on one launcher does not unlock content bought on another.
- The same region rules as any other activation. A Europe-tagged code bought from outside Europe can refuse to redeem, exactly as it would for a full game.
If you do not own the base game yet, the sensible order is the reverse of the one most people follow: check the price of the main game first — it currently starts at € (with coupon Gocdkeys12) on the resale board — and only then decide whether the expansion goes in the same basket.
Six levels wrapped around a hub called Purgatory
What you get for the money is a self-contained continuation of the Slayer's story: roughly ten to twelve hours split between the main thread and a substantial endgame, six levels organised around an interconnected hub environment, and a design that leans on backtracking and puzzle-solving rather than a straight corridor. Taken together it runs longer than both DOOM Eternal expansions combined, which is an unusual amount of content for something priced as an add-on.
Critics have been kind to it: 90 on OpenCritic, with every one of the 18 reviews counted so far recommending it. That is a small sample, but it is a unanimous one.

One name, two platforms: telling the listings apart
Some sellers list the expansion under a combined PC and Xbox label, which is where most mistaken purchases come from. Before paying, check the platform stated on the listing and match it to the one where your base game lives. The cheapest plain activation is currently at Eneba; the Steam Gift listings, at € (with coupon GCDK14DEAL), are genuine transfers but depend on the sender and usually carry a region.

Treat Revelations as what it is — ten to twelve hours of extra campaign bolted onto a game you must already own — and the price stops looking like a bargain and starts looking like what it is: fair.
