Terrible Lizards launched on 29 October on PC via Steam and on Xbox Series, and anyone with Xbox Game Pass gets it included from day one. It's a first-person horror game built around parkour, developed by WDR Studios, an independent studio from Raleigh, North Carolina, and published by Digital Pajamas.

On PC, Steam lists it at €20.39 (no fees) today. The same Steam key costs €17.99 (no fees) at Instant Gaming, so there's about €2.40 to save.

Dinosaurs, Route 66 and a lot of running

The game is set in Dalton's Dinos, a closed-down roadside dinosaur park on Route 66, and in the caves underneath it. The dinosaurs down there have mutated, and the way past them is movement: you run, jump, slide, climb and wall-run. Everything the studio has shown so far is about dodging and escaping, so expect a game about getting away rather than fighting back.

There was a demo on Steam before release, which means you may already know whether the movement works for you. Some things are still open. We don't know how long it takes to finish, and after two days on sale there are no Steam user reviews in our data yet.

Where the PC Steam key is cheapest

This morning we counted nine offers for the PC version across eight stores: seven Steam keys and two Steam accounts. Here are the keys, cheapest first once fees are added:

  • Driffle (key listed for Europe): €16.90 with the code GOCDKEYS10 (€17.91 with fees).
  • Instant Gaming: €17.99 (no fees).
  • Driffle (global key): €17.97 with GOCDKEYS10 (€19.02 with fees).
  • GamesPlanet: €20.08 (no fees).
  • Steam: €20.39 (no fees).
  • Fanatical and GamersGate: €25.49 each (no fees).

Driffle wins by 8 cents after its payment fee, as long as you remember the code. Instant Gaming is the simpler buy: nothing gets added at checkout, so you pay exactly €17.99. Either way you're around €2.40 under Steam. All the offers to buy Terrible Lizards key are on the game page.

We'd skip the two Steam accounts. Difmark asks €33.59 with the Gocdkeys coupon (€35.10 with fees) and Key4Games €33.99 (€35.55 with fees). That's close to double the price of a key, and what you get is the login to somebody else's Steam account that owns the game. It never shows up in your own library, and if the seller takes the account back, the game goes with it.

On Xbox, Game Pass is the easy route

If you subscribe to Game Pass, it's already in the catalogue. If you don't, it's on sale in the Xbox store, although we don't have that price. Our Xbox page has no keys at all, only accounts: Difmark at €33.59 with the Gocdkeys coupon (€35.10 with fees) and Key4Games at €33.99 (€35.55 with fees). They cost more than the PC key and you'd be playing on an account that isn't yours, so we wouldn't buy either.

A word of caution on PS5

The studio's launch announcement only mentions PC and Xbox. Even so, two resellers are already selling accounts on our PS5 page: Key4Games at €28.89 with the code GOCDKEYS15 (€30.45 with fees) and Difmark at €33.59 with the Gocdkeys coupon (€35.10 with fees). We'd stay away. WDR Studios didn't list a PS5 version in that announcement, and you'd be paying for access to a stranger's account. If you play on PlayStation, set a price alert and wait for official news.

Should you wait for a lower price?

It's only been on sale for two days, so there's no price history worth reading yet and we can't tell you whether it'll drop soon. If you played the demo and liked it, €17.99 (no fees) for a Steam key is a fair price to jump in at. If you're unsure, set a price alert on the PC page and we'll email you when it gets cheaper.

Prices checked on the morning of 30 October.
