Starbreeze has moved the seven paid heists of PAYDAY 3 into the base game. Own the game and you own them, with nothing left to pay, and the heists that come later are covered by the same rule. The DLC that used to sell them separately left the official stores on 25 August. Anybody who had already bought one keeps everything.
The switch lands with the September update, timed for the game’s third anniversary. That patch also brings a campaign mode with the story rewritten, weapon perks, a shooting range and reworked enemies. Players who paid for a heist DLC before it was pulled are getting a pistol variant, the S40 “Partisan”.
What the base game covers from September
Every heist that used to sit behind a separate purchase, plus whatever Starbreeze Studios ships next. Starbreeze Entertainment publishes the game, and the position is about as blunt as a publisher gets: the heists are the game, so they travel with it.
Steam’s verdict has not moved. It still reads Mixed, with 22,085 positive reviews out of 49,077. Three years of argument condensed into one word. Whether the September patch shifts that is a question for October; the pricing side of it changed the moment the DLC came down, and that part we can measure.
The heist DLC left the official stores, not the resale ones
Check this before you spend anything. Official stores stopped selling the heist DLC on 25 August. Resale shops carried on, and the offers are still sitting there with prices attached.
Here is what we see today. PAYDAY 3 Chapter 2 Boys in Blue for PC starts at €5.72, and there are nine live offers behind that number, so it is not one straggler nobody has cleaned up. Payday 3 Chapter 1 Syntax Error for PC starts at €8.22. The Xbox One version of Syntax Error starts at €9.49.
Now put that €9.49 next to what the full game costs on the same console. PAYDAY 3 on Xbox One starts at €4.50 and 14 stores are selling it. One heist, on Xbox, costs more than twice the entire game — and in September that heist belongs to everyone who owns the game anyway.
Does a code bought today still get you the pistol?
The S40 “Partisan” goes to players who bought a heist DLC before the withdrawal. A code sitting in a resale shop was generated before that date, but nobody has said whether redeeming it now counts as buying before, and we would rather leave it flagged than answer it for you. Treat it as unconfirmed. Paying €5.72 for a gun you may not receive, to unlock content you will get for free, is a strange way to spend an evening’s worth of money.
Shared account, Steam gift, ordinary code
The lowest PC number today is €11.42 at G2A, and it is a Steam account. Somebody else registered that profile, and you play as him: the game sits in his library, your hours accumulate on his record, and he is the one who can change the password. A Steam gift, like Gamivo’s €12.66, arrives as a present sent to your account. It works, but it leans on the sender and on your region matching.
An ordinary Steam code is the boring option and the one most people want: redeem it, the game is yours, nothing else to think about. So the cheapest copy that genuinely ends up in your library is €12.52 at Driffle, a Europe code. Behind it, Gameboost at €12.71 for Europe, Kinguin at €13.86 Global, Gamivo at €14.18 Global. Steam itself asks €14.24. Driffle’s Global code is €14.35 and Eneba closes the list at €14.51. From top to bottom the PC prices span a shade over three euros, which is what makes the €11.42 account look less like a discount and more like a different product with the same name. If you want the straightforward version, buy PAYDAY 3 key and be done.
What the cheapest price did in four days
We store 260 daily readings for this page, the first of them from a June three years back. Through August the cheapest offer sat between €6.89 and €7.97 and stayed inside that band until the 27th. On 28 August it read €10.11. On the 29th, €11.79. It has not dropped below €11.42 since.
Measured from the middle of that August band, that is roughly 60% on top of the floor in four days. Whether the announcement caused it we did not measure, and neither did anyone else. The sequence and the dates are what we have, and they say that anyone who bought in mid-August paid about a third less than today’s price for exactly the same thing.
Cheapest way in right now
Xbox One at €4.50, and the gap is not close. PS5 starts at €9.39 with five stores. PS4 is €19.79 from a single shop, which makes it the one platform where waiting is the sensible move. On PC, €12.52 gets you a copy in your own library.
And the heist DLC: skip all of it. Paying for those in September buys you nothing you are not about to be given.
