Before you look at a single offer, one thing has to be clear: Grim Dawn: Fangs of Asterkarn is not a game. It is an expansion, and like every Grim Dawn expansion it plugs into a copy that already exists. Buy the code without owning the base game and all you have bought is a library entry that opens nothing.
Without the base game there is nothing to open
This is the most expensive mistake people make with this product, and it is an easy one, because it is sold with its own price, its own page and its own format, exactly like a full game. So check first: do you own Grim Dawn on the same account and the same storefront where you plan to redeem this? That question comes back further down, because the answer is less obvious than it sounds.
Two masteries, and that is the whole game
Grim Dawn does not ask you to pick a class. It asks you to pick two. You start with one mastery, add a second as you progress, and the pair you end up with is your character. Nothing cosmetic about it: each combination opens different skills and modifiers, and two combinations sit further apart than two classes do in a conventional action RPG. It also explains why an expansion that adds mastery options multiplies the builds instead of adding a single one.
Devotion is the second tree, and almost nobody explains it
Sitting above the masteries is a constellation map you unlock by cleansing shrines scattered around the world. Each constellation hands out passive bonuses and, in some cases, an effect that fires by itself once a condition is met. The useful part is that Devotion runs independently of your two masteries, so two characters that look identical on paper can play nothing alike depending on the constellations they took. Coming from another action RPG, this is the one system you will have to learn from scratch.
What happens to the save I already had going?
Expansion content does not force a restart. It is woven into the world you already know, so an advanced character reaches the new material as soon as they get to the area or meet the requirement, and any customisation options that come with it are open to the characters you already have. Starting over is up to you.
Steam and GOG do not share a library
Steam offers and GOG offers sit side by side here, and those are two separate libraries. A GOG expansion will not activate on a Steam copy of Grim Dawn, nor the other way round. Same content, but it has to live in the same house as the base game. You will also see offers marked Steam Account, which are not a purchase of yours but access to somebody else’s account that already holds the material: usually the cheapest thing there, and the furthest from an ordinary purchase.

What to check before adding it to the library
Three things, in this order: that you own the base game, that the offer storefront is the one you own it on, and what the format label says. With that settled you can buy Grim Dawn: Fangs of Asterkarn key and nothing will surprise you at redemption.
