Over sixty resources and products, three production lines and four dig sites: that is the shape of Ore Factory Squad, a cooperative mining and factory-building sim from threeW, published by PlayWay. It has drawn a Very Positive reception from more than a thousand players, and the reason is a loop that starts embarrassingly small.

From the shovel to the first furnace

You begin with a small warehouse, a shovel and nothing else. You buy a property, dig into procedurally generated underground terrain and start pulling out whatever is down there. There are no fixed mining paths: you carve your own tunnels, and every property has its own ore distribution, so the map you make is the map you get.

Depth is the pressure. The deeper you go the more valuable the material, and the more you need better tools — pickaxes, then jackhammers, then explosives. Deciding when to stop digging and start spending on the next tier is most of the early game.

The three production lines and what comes out of each

Raw stone on its own is worth very little. The value comes from processing it through multi-stage lines, and that is where the factory half of the game lives.

StageWhat it handlesWhat it needs from you
ExtractionOre straight out of the tunnelsTools, and a route back to the surface
ProcessingCopper, bronze, iron, steel, gold, diamondMachines and recipes you unlock as you progress
LogisticsMoving and storing the finished goodsConveyors, warehouse robots, forklifts, trucks

The factory grows with you: simple conveyor belts early on, a fully automated operation later. Alongside it you hire miners and handlers, send workers out on off-site contracts and negotiate production deals, which adds an economic layer on top of the digging.

What changes when you play with up to three friends?

The whole operation works solo, at your own pace — that is not a compromise mode. With up to three other players it becomes a division of labour instead: someone stays underground, someone runs the processing floor, someone handles logistics and contracts. Steam lists single-player, multiplayer, co-op and online co-op, plus full controller support and Steam Cloud saves, so switching between the two ways of playing is not a separate save file problem.

How long before it starts repeating

Four dig sites, each with its own environments, hazards and resource types, plus procedurally generated terrain, means the layout is never the same twice. What actually carries the long game is the progression: new machines, new recipes, a bigger vehicle fleet, city activities and cosmetic customisation for your character and factory. If you like management sims and factory builders, that is a lot of runway; if you wanted a short story-driven game, this is not it.
