Mewgenics is coming to Xbox in September. For a game that Edmund McMillen and Tyler Glaiel kept tearing down and rebuilding for the best part of a decade, that is a proper milestone. The cat-breeding tactical roguelike has been out on PC for a few months already, so anyone eyeing it now has a genuine choice to make: pay for it today on a keyboard, or hold out a few weeks and play it on a controller.
Before any of that, one thing needs clearing up, because it catches people out every single time. Open the PC price page and the smallest figure on it is 7,76 €. The next one up is 28,24 €. Twenty euros of daylight between two offers for the same game is not one shop being generous while the rest gouge you. Two different things are being sold under the same name.
September on Xbox, PC right now
September is the whole of what we know. No day, no price, no shop selling it yet. Nothing from the Xbox version has landed in our comparator, so there is no console figure we can honestly put next to the PC ones. If you come across an Xbox price for Mewgenics today, somebody has invented it.
On PC it is the opposite problem: too much information rather than none. Thirteen live offers across eight shops, and they need sorting before they mean anything.
The lowest price on the page is not a copy of the game
That 7,76 € from Kinguin carries the Steam Account label. What changes hands there is not the game but the login details of an account that already owns it. Mewgenics never appears in your own library. You cannot put it next to the rest of your collection, you are sharing a profile with a stranger, and if whoever set it up decides to change the password one afternoon, you have bought an anecdote.
The cheapest way to actually own Mewgenics on PC right now is Steam itself, at 28,99 €. Everything else clusters around that: the shops in our comparator sit in a tight band of roughly 28 to 32 €, and almost all of them are selling the gift format rather than a straight code. The lowest price we can find for a normal Standard purchase today is €, at Steam.

Once you separate those three, the twenty euro gap stops looking like a bargain and starts looking like a labelling problem. There has been no flash sale on Mewgenics. There is one cheap offer of a completely different kind sitting at the top of the page.
What the shops are asking for it today
Read that from the second entry down and the picture is calm: Gamivo at 28,24 €, then Steam at 28,99 €, then Driffle, K4G, Gameseal and Kinguin all shuffling around between 29,96 € and 32,28 €, with G2A at 37,19 € and Difmark right out at 48,82 €. Between the official store and most of the resellers there is barely a couple of euros, and the gift format takes back some of that in region hassle.
Every cheap price in our records came from the same seller
We have been keeping a continuous history for this page since the spring, and it shows three lows that look tempting on a graph: 4,99 € in May, 6,00 € in July, 6,23 € in August. All three belong to the same run of Kinguin account offers. Take them out and the curve is almost flat, hovering around the thirty euro mark since we started measuring.
So the honest summary fits in one sentence. Mewgenics has never been cheap; something else on its page has.
Our page carries no Steam verdict, and we are not going to invent one
This is normally where we would tell you how the Steam crowd has taken to it. We cannot. Our record for Mewgenics shows a score of 0 with 0 reviews, and in our database that means no data rather than a poor reception. Until it fills in, we have nothing to report on how players are getting on with it, and neither does anyone quoting our page.
PC now, or Xbox in a few weeks?
If you play on PC and you already know you want it, buy the Standard and stop looking. Around 29 € is what this game costs, whether you go through Steam or through a shop, and the few cents you might scrape off with the gift format are not worth a region mismatch on a Saturday night. If you would rather have it on Xbox, waiting is cheap. The game is recent, its price has not started falling in any serious way, and a console release usually brings its own promotion along with it. A few weeks of patience is unlikely to cost you money.
And if you only clicked because of that 7,76 €: it will still be there tomorrow, and it will still not be the game.
