Gothic 1 Remake now has a photo mode with camera controls and a cheat mode called Marvin, both added in Feature Update 1. The patch went up on 29 October, it's free if you already own the game, and it arrived on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S at the same time.
Steam dropped the price that same day, to €37.49 (no fees), so there's something here for anyone who hasn't bought it yet as well.
What's in Feature Update 1
- Photo mode, with control over the camera.
- Marvin mode, which switches on cheats.
- A new hairstyle and tattoos, unlocked through quests from Joru and Baal Namib in the Swamp Camp.
- Quest progression fixes, one of them for Aaron's chest in chapter 1.
- The option to wait on benches.
- Gameplay tweaks.
Modders get news too: the first phase of mod support is out, with the Modkit in beta. THQ Nordic and Alkimia Interactive haven't put a date on further tools.
Turning on Marvin mode from the keyboard
Press Esc, type MARVIN, press Esc again and follow the prompt on screen. To turn it off, press Esc and type 42. That's the keyboard method; we don't know how it's done on a controller.
Steam's discount against the resellers
The normal Steam price is €49.99 (no fees), and the previous sale, from 2 to 9 October, stopped at €39.99 (no fees), so this one goes further. Humble Bundle and Fanatical are still asking €49.99 (no fees) for a Steam key.
Resellers are around €12 cheaper than Steam, and this morning three of them were separated by just a few cents:
- Cdkeys Com: €25.19 (no fees), Steam key.
- Gameseal: €22.48 with the SEAL17CKD coupon (€25.27 with fees), Steam key.
- Eneba: €22.87 with the Gocdkeys10 coupon (€25.38 with fees), global Steam key.
Every other offer to buy Gothic 1 Remake key is on the game page. Watch the format while you're there, because the cheapest thing listed isn't a key. Key4Games sells a shared Steam account for €11.55 with the GOCDKEYS15 coupon (€12.32 with fees). You're given the login to an account that isn't yours, the game never reaches your own library, and you lose it if the seller takes the account back. We don't recommend it.
PS5 and Xbox: mind the region
On PS5, the lowest PSN key is Kinguin's at €29.98 (€32.48 with fees), but it's for North America and won't work on a European account. Amazon France has the disc for €39.99 (no fees).
On Xbox, Eneba has a United States key for €33.47 with Gocdkeys10 (€36.90 with fees), so check that the region suits your Microsoft account before paying. Its European key is €36.41 with the same coupon (€40.09 with fees). The Microsoft Store was at €44.99 (no fees) the last time we read it, on 24 October.
Is this a good time to buy?
For a game with 88% positive Steam reviews out of 27,139, it's not a bad moment, mostly thanks to Steam's discount. The €25.19 (no fees) Steam key is a less convincing deal. Its median price is €22.78 (historical figure, before fees), and it has been cheaper than today on 184 of the 235 days we've tracked, pre-orders included. If you're in no rush, set a price alert and we'll tell you when it drops.
Prices checked on the morning of 1 November.
