If you're after a farming game on PC, chances are you've already played Stardew Valley, probably for longer than you'd care to admit. This is what to play next.
Our catalogue has more than 300 PC games that Steam tags as Farming Sim and that have at least one live offer. We kept 15 where the farm really matters and Steam players like the result. Two big names are missing on purpose. Stardew Valley already has its place in our guide to the best pixel art games on PC, and Farming Simulator 25, the realistic one with tractors, gets its own article on the cheapest offers.
We checked prices on 15 September at around 06:00 UTC. They change daily. Each one comes with its coupon, the total after the store's payment fee, and the format.
A quick word on formats. A Steam Key or a Steam gift goes into your own library and stays there. A shared account means logging in with someone else's Steam profile that owns the game, and the seller can take that access away, so we always point you to a copy of your own first. Check the region on gifts, too: a US gift won't activate on a European account. And on several of these games, keys sell for a fraction of what Steam charges. That usually means they came out of bundles, although we can't confirm it for each one.
Where to go after Stardew Valley
Fields of Mistria looks like a nineties anime drawn in pixel art. NPC Studio brings you to the town of Mistria after an earthquake, and you help put it back together while you grow crops, look after animals, learn magic and court the locals. No game here has more positive Steam reviews: 30,511 against 1,271 negative, Overwhelmingly Positive.
It's also the only game here where Steam is the cheapest copy you can actually use. No store resells a Steam Key, and the one cheaper offer, a G2A gift at €13.40 (€13.69 with fees), is US-region and useless on a European account. Buy it on Steam for €13.79, no fees, or set a price alert for Fields of Mistria in case a key turns up.
Coral Island trades the valley for a tropical island. Stairway Games, a studio from Indonesia, with Balor Games publishing, gives you something Stardew doesn't: diving to clean up the reef. Back on land there's a big town to get to know and plenty of people to marry. Steam rates it Very Positive, 19,422 to 2,400. OpenCritic has it at 83, but only 10 critics reviewed it.
Steam asks €29.99, no fees. Gamivo has the Steam Key at €16.50 with coupon GCDKGamivo (€18.07 with fees), seven cents under Driffle's €17.12 with coupon GOCDKEYS10 (€18.14 with fees). If Coral Island is your pick, Gamivo is where we'd buy Coral Island key today, €11.92 less than on Steam.
Roots of Pacha goes back a long way, to the Stone Age. Soda Den puts you in a clan that is only just discovering farming: you plant the first crops, tame animals and come up with inventions as you go. It also plays in online co-op. Very Positive on Steam (3,514 to 264), and 84 on OpenCritic from 14 reviews.
The gap with Steam is wide. Steam charges €24.99, no fees, while Gamivo sells the Steam Key for €10.32 with coupon GCDKGamivo (€11.67 with fees). Difmark's shared account goes for €4.19 with coupon Gocdkeys (€4.38 with fees), but for months of co-op you want the save on an account you control. G2A's global gift, €27.24 with coupon GCKG2AU1M4D (€27.53 with fees), costs more than Steam.
Echoes of the Plum Grove has the most original idea in this group. Unwound Games drew it by hand (indie.io publishes), and its characters age and die, so what you're really looking after is a family, one generation after another. Very Positive on Steam, with 2,332 positive reviews and 348 negative.
It's the cheapest game in the guide. Steam lists it at €18.49, no fees, and Difmark sells the Steam Key for €1.12 with coupon Gocdkeys (€1.17 with fees). Gameseal starts lower, at €0.86 with coupon SEAL17CKD, but the fee takes it up to €1.32. Gamivo's European gift, €12.58 with coupon GCDKGamivo (€14.01 with fees), is for people who won't buy keys.
Witches, hobbits and a valley full of Disney characters
Wylde Flowers is built around its story. Tara moves to Fairhaven to look after her grandmother's farm and finds out the town has a coven of witches, so you work the fields by day and cast spells at night. Studio Drydock had every line of dialogue voiced. Overwhelmingly Positive on Steam (2,210 to 116) and 84 on OpenCritic across 12 reviews.
This time the gift beats the keys. Gamivo's European Steam gift costs €14.28 with coupon GCDKGamivo (€15.77 with fees). The keys barely undercut Steam's €20.99, no fees: Driffle asks €18.55 with coupon GOCDKEYS10 (€19.62 with fees), and Gamivo's key looks cheaper at €18.36 with coupon GCDKGamivo until fees bring it to €19.99. With a European account, get the gift.
Tales of the Shire: A The Lord of The Rings Game is Wētā Workshop's hobbit life in Bywater: a vegetable patch, cooking, fishing and neighbours to win over. Players took to it more than critics did. Steam says Very Positive, with 2,618 positive and 614 negative reviews, while OpenCritic averages 62 from 35 reviews.
Steam's €32.99, no fees, is more than twice what the keys cost. K4G has a global Steam Key at €13.89 with coupon GCDK14DEAL (€15.47 with fees), and G2A a European-region one at €15.50 with coupon GCKG2AU1M4D (€15.79 with fees). Skip G2A's US gift at €31.66 (€31.95 with fees) and Difmark's shared account at €8.57 with coupon Gocdkeys (€8.96 with fees).
Disney Dreamlight Valley is Gameloft's version: a valley to bring back to life, where the neighbours are Disney and Pixar characters. You grow crops, cook and make friends with them. Very Positive on Steam, 20,257 to 1,762, and 75 on OpenCritic from 37 reviews.
It costs €39.99 on Steam, no fees, and the keys take a big bite out of that. K4G's European-region Steam Key is €12.48 with coupon GCDK14DEAL (€13.94 with fees). G2A's global key, €14.20 with coupon GCKG2AU1M4D (€14.49 with fees), is the safer choice if your account isn't European. Gamivo's shared account is cheaper, €7.31 with coupon GCDKGamivo (€8.56 with fees), but this is a game you keep coming back to, so you'll want it on your own account.
When the farm is only half the job
My Time at Sandrock makes you the builder of a desert town. Pathea Games gives you crops to tend, but they share your days with a workshop where you make whatever the townsfolk order, along with mining and combat. There's an online multiplayer mode too. Very Positive on Steam, 21,212 positive and 2,892 negative, with a Metascore of 80.
Steam already sells it cheap at €10.49, no fees, and the keys still cost less than half that. Gameboost has the Steam Key at €4.13 with coupon GCDK13 (€4.33 with fees), with Difmark close behind at €4.30 with coupon Gocdkeys (€4.49 with fees). For under five euros, Gameboost is the easy place to buy My Time at Sandrock key.
Dinkum comes from James Bendon, with Krafton publishing, and drops you on an island inspired by the Australian outback to build a town from nothing. You farm, fish, catch bugs and put up buildings, and you can do it in online co-op. Steam rates it Very Positive, 22,668 to 1,971.
On price, Dinkum breaks the pattern. Its Steam Keys cost more than Steam's €19.50, no fees: €22.27 with coupon Gocdkeys (€23.27 with fees) at Difmark and €25.12 with coupon Gocdkeys10 (€27.83 with fees) at Eneba. What does come in under Steam is Gamivo's European Steam gift, at €13.75 with coupon GCDKGamivo (€15.22 with fees).
Rune Factory and Story of Seasons, both from Marvelous
Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma takes Marvelous's series to a land inspired by Japan (XSEED Games publishes it, as it does the other two here), mixing action combat with farming, rebuilding villages and romance. Very Positive on Steam (2,584 to 352). OpenCritic gives it 81 from 81 reviews, more critic reviews than any other game here.
It's also the most expensive, €59.99 on Steam, no fees, and has by far the most offers, 88 of them. Gameboost sells the Steam Key for €22.12 with coupon GCDK13 (€23.12 with fees). Gamivo's European-region key starts lower at €21.78 with coupon GCDKGamivo, then reaches €23.53 with fees. Two to steer clear of: Driffle's US gift at €46.64 with coupon GOCDKEYS10 (€48.72 with fees), which a European account can't redeem, and Difmark's shared account at €12.59 with coupon Gocdkeys (€13.16 with fees).
Rune Factory 4 Special is an upgraded version of a Rune Factory classic. You turn up in Selphia with no memory, end up running the town's farm and head down into dungeons. Very Positive (1,819 to 248) and 82 on OpenCritic from 59 reviews.
Instant Gaming has the Steam Key at €7.29, no fees. Driffle shows €7.07 with coupon GOCDKEYS10, but that becomes €7.73 with fees. Steam wants €29.99, no fees, and G2A's gift, €26.84 (€27.13 with fees), is US-region.
Story of Seasons: Grand Bazaar is a remake of a Harvest Moon game from the Nintendo DS. What you grow, you sell at the town's weekly market, and you help that market grow along with your farm. Very Positive on Steam, 2,903 positive and 218 negative.
Steam's €49.99, no fees, is a lot for it, and the keys come in at less than half. K4G has the Steam Key at €21.85 with coupon GCDK14DEAL (€24.11 with fees). Difmark's shared account, €18.05 with coupon Gocdkeys (€18.86 with fees), saves just €5.25 over the K4G key.
Which ones can you play with friends?
Farm Together 2 is made for exactly that. Milkstone Studios built a relaxed farm with nothing chasing you, designed to be shared online with friends. Very Positive on Steam, 4,140 to 312.
Gamivo sells the Steam Key for €14.38 with coupon GCDKGamivo (€15.87 with fees). Steam charges €25.99, no fees. G2A's gift, €24.26 (€24.55 with fees), is US-region, and its shared account costs €6.89 with coupon GCKG2AU1M4D (€7.18 with fees).
It isn't the only choice for a group. Roots of Pacha and Dinkum both have online co-op, and My Time at Sandrock has online multiplayer. If everyone is buying their own copy, Sandrock's Steam Key at Gameboost, €4.13 (€4.33 with fees), is the cheapest of the four.
Two farms that run without you
The Farmer Was Replaced is closer to a programming game than to country life. Timon Herzog has you write code for a drone, in a language a lot like Python, until the farm works on its own. Overwhelmingly Positive on Steam, 8,611 to 453.
Nobody resells a key. Steam charges €7.99, no fees, and the one saving that still ends up in your library is Gamivo's global Steam gift at €5.38 with coupon GCDKGamivo (€6.56 with fees). Its shared account, €3.89 with coupon GCDKGamivo (€4.78 with fees), saves €1.78 on a copy that isn't yours.
Rusty's Retirement lives in a strip at the side of your screen while you use the computer for other things. Robots do the farming, and you keep making the farm bigger. Mister Morris Games made it, and Steam players adore it: Overwhelmingly Positive, 13,343 to 556. Critics were cooler, with 67 on OpenCritic from 28 reviews.
Steam sells it for €6.99, no fees. Kinguin's Steam Key is €1.90 with coupon SEPGOC10 (€2.40 with fees), eight cents under Eneba, which starts at €1.79 with coupon Gocdkeys10 and ends at €2.48 with fees. Difmark's European gift sits at €2.69 with coupon Gocdkeys (€2.81 with fees).

Take the cheapest copy of each and all 15 add up to €188.78 with fees. Buying them one by one on Steam would come to €392.16, which is €203.38 more.
