Split screen has been disappearing from big games for years, but on Xbox there are still plenty that let two people play on one console and one TV, each with their own half of the screen. Some are racing games where you try to beat the person next to you, others are adventures you play through together. This list is about that: the screen cut in two.
To build it we started from the Xbox games in our catalogue whose PC version Steam players tag as «Split Screen», and kept the 46 that had offers in stock this morning. That tag comes from Steam, so for each game we also checked that the Xbox version lists split screen. We dropped the kids' licence kart games, anything with Mixed or Negative reviews on Steam (Madden NFL 23, Star Wars Battlefront Classic Collection), games where both players share the same screen rather than splitting it, such as Brothers or One Piece Burning Blood, and repeated entries in a series: only one MotoGP. Thirteen are left. The score is the Steam one for the PC version, as a share of positive reviews and a review count. Prices come with the coupon if there is one, and then what you pay with the store's payment fee in brackets.
If what you want is co-op games for the sofa in general, including the ones where everyone is on the same screen, we covered those in the best local co-op games on Xbox. The Escapists 2 and LEGO DC Super-Villains are in that one, so we won't repeat them.
Adventures for two: Wobbly Life, Revenge of the Savage Planet and Outward
Wobbly Life, from RubberBand Games, drops you into a town full of floppy characters who can barely stand up. You take jobs, deliver pizzas, earn money and spend it on houses, cars and clothes, and most of the fun comes from the physics going wrong. It has the best score on the list along with Split Fiction: 97% of 33,788 Steam reviews are positive. The Xbox Store lists it with split screen but gives different player counts on different pages, so we'll just say it has it. The key is a European one at Eneba for €16.17 with Gocdkeys10 (€18.11 with fees), against €24.99 (no fees) at the Microsoft Store. Key4Games sells an account for €1.76 with GOCDKEYS16 (€2.08 with fees).
Revenge of the Savage Planet is Raccoon Logic's comedy sci-fi adventure: the company that sent you into space drops you, and you end up stranded, scanning alien creatures and building gear to get off the planet. The campaign can be played by two in split screen. 86% of 2,891 Steam reviews are positive. The cheapest key is at Gamivo, €24.20 with GCDKGamivo (€26.04 with fees), and it works for both Xbox and the Windows PC version. It's slightly above its usual price (the median is €23.77, without fees), so if you're not in a hurry set a price alert for Revenge of the Savage Planet. The Key4Games account costs €8.10 with GOCDKEYS16 (€8.66 with fees).
Outward already got a post when Outward 2 announced its early access, so here's just the essentials. It's a harsh survival RPG where you eat, sleep and carry everything in a backpack, and it's one of the few RPGs of its size that you can play two to a screen. 72% of 24,944 Steam reviews are positive. The European key at Cdkeys Com costs €7.19 (no fees); the Key4Games account €3.88 with GOCDKEYS16 (€4.28 with fees). The sequel news is in Outward 2 gets an early access date.
F1 25 and three bike games for racing each other
F1 25 is Codemasters' official Formula 1 game, with the season's teams, career mode and the Braking Point story. In split screen two players race with a full grid of 20 cars, and you can set up a whole championship. 87% of 26,746 Steam reviews are positive. The cheapest key is a US one at Kinguin, €19.97 with NOVGOC10 (€21.91 with fees), for Xbox Series X|S; the Microsoft Store asks €79.99 (no fees). GamesPSN has an account for €10.89 (no fees).
MotoGP 24 is Milestone's official championship game, with Moto2 and Moto3 too. We chose it over MotoGP 25 because its Steam reviews are better, 83% of 1,015 positive, and because the key is much cheaper: €5.47 with GCDKGamivo (€6.65 with fees) for a European key at Gamivo. The account at Key4Games is €3.88 with GOCDKEYS16 (€4.28 with fees).
RIDE 5, also from Milestone, is about road bikes: hundreds of real models, tuning and endurance races. 82% of 3,436 Steam reviews are positive. Gamivo has a US key for €7.82 (€9.08 with fees), and the Key4Games account costs €5.16 with GOCDKEYS16 (€5.61 with fees).
MX vs ATV All Out, by Rainbow Studios, is motocross and quads, with tracks and open areas to ride around. 81% of 1,341 Steam reviews are positive. The European key at Eneba is €6.19 with Gocdkeys10 (€7.26 with fees), and the Microsoft Store charges €25.85 (no fees). Difmark sells an account for €4.19 with Gocdkeys (€4.38 with fees).
Cheap and silly: Bang-On Balls, Hot Wheels and two LEGO games
Bang-On Balls: Chronicles, by Exit Plan Games, makes you a ball that bounces and smashes its way through levels inspired by history, with Vikings and pirates among them. The more you break, the better. Split screen is for two players, and 96% of 4,347 Steam reviews are positive. Kinguin has a US key for €10.21 with NOVGOC10 (€11.37 with fees), under half the €24.99 (no fees) the Microsoft Store asks. The Key4Games account costs €5.56 with GOCDKEYS16 (€6.02 with fees). All the offers are on the page to buy Bang-On Balls: Chronicles Xbox key.
Hot Wheels Unleashed 2: Turbocharged, Milestone again, puts the orange tracks in oversized real-world settings, adds motorbikes and ATVs, and keeps two-player split screen. 77% of 987 Steam reviews are positive. The European key at Gamivo costs €4.15 with GCDKGamivo (€5.05 with fees), and even the Microsoft Store only asks €5.99 (no fees). Kinguin has an account, sold as the Legendary Edition, for €3.37 with NOVGOC10 (€3.99 with fees).
LEGO Marvel's Avengers, from TT Games, follows the films The Avengers and Age of Ultron, and like every LEGO game of that era it plays best with two. 88% of 6,112 Steam reviews are positive. Instant Gaming sells the key for €5.29 (no fees); the Microsoft Store still lists it at €49.99 (no fees). The Key4Games account is €1.59 with GOCDKEYS16 (€1.90 with fees).
LEGO The Incredibles covers both Pixar films and adds a city to explore between missions. 90% of 1,612 Steam reviews are positive. Eneba has a European key for €4.92 with Gocdkeys10 (€5.89 with fees); Difmark's account costs €4.28 with Gocdkeys (€4.47 with fees), and there it makes little sense to pay for someone else's account when the key costs barely more.
Split Fiction and Sonic, in brief
Split Fiction, by Hazelight, is the one game here made only for two: two writers end up trapped inside their own science fiction and fantasy stories. We covered it in the co-op post, so just the price: a US key at Eneba for €22.60 with Gocdkeys10 (€25.09 with fees), or a Key4Games account for €11.83 with GOCDKEYS16 (€12.54 with fees). 97% of 79,630 Steam reviews are positive.
Sonic Racing CrossWorlds splits the screen up to four ways. 92% of 11,902 Steam reviews are positive. A US key at Eneba costs €30.42 with Gocdkeys10 (€33.59 with fees), against €39.99 (no fees) at the Microsoft Store, and the Key4Games account €24.16 with GOCDKEYS16 (€25.34 with fees). The editions are explained in Sonic Racing CrossWorlds and its second year.
Xbox key or someone else's account
An Xbox key is a code you redeem on your own Microsoft account, and the game stays with you. Keys have a region: those for F1 25, RIDE 5, Bang-On Balls, Split Fiction and Sonic above are US keys, meant for an American Microsoft account, and on a European account they won't redeem. The European ones work on a Spanish, French or German account without trouble.
An account is access to an Xbox account that belongs to someone else and already has the game. You sign in on your console and play, but the game isn't in your name, and if the seller takes the account back, you lose it. That's why they're so cheap. For games like LEGO The Incredibles or Hot Wheels, where the key costs only a euro or so more than the account, the key is the obvious choice.
