Altered Orbit Studios releases Selaco Chapter 2: The Machines of War on 13 November, as a free update for everyone who owns the game. It's the second of three planned chapters, so the first-person shooter stays in early access on Steam once it lands. One thing to know before then: your current save files won't work with the update.
What Chapter 2 adds to Selaco
The headline is size. Chapter 2 brings 19 new campaign maps and somewhere between six and eight hours of play, which doubles the length of the campaign as it stands.
On the combat side you get:
- a new machine enemy that doesn't let up;
- deployable turrets, a minigun and a jetpack;
- the Heavy Ordnance System, which hands you heavy weapons for a limited time;
- an NPC companion you can order to hold position.
Dawn Collins, the protagonist, is now fully voiced. Enemy AI has been reworked and Chapter 1 has been remastered. Under the hood there's a new baked lighting system and a second particle system, and the studio says VRAM use is down 19%.
Old saves won't carry over
This is the bit that matters if you're halfway through. Saves made before 13 November are not compatible with Chapter 2, so expect to start over. With Chapter 1 remastered and the AI redone, a second run won't play quite like the first one did.
Buying Selaco while it's in early access
Selaco went into early access on 31 May two years ago. Pay for it today and you play Chapter 1 now and get Chapter 2 on the 13th at no extra cost. The third chapter is still to come, and we have no confirmed date for it. Steam players seem happy with what's there so far: reviews are Very Positive, 93% of 4,813.
The cheapest key this morning is the one Steam sells itself, at €24.50 (no fees). Across the 12 offers in stock, no reseller key beats it today.
Key4Games also lists a Steam Account at €3.65 with coupon GOCDKEYS15 (€4.07 with fees). We wouldn't buy it: you're paying for access to someone else's account, so Selaco never ends up in a library that's yours.
Buy now or wait for a sale?
€24.50 (no fees) is what Selaco normally costs. It's also the key's historical median in our data (no fees), so you aren't overpaying. The lowest it has ever gone is €16.41 (no fees), in early June last year, and drops that deep have been rare.
If you want to play Chapter 2 the day it comes out, there's little point holding off. If you're in no hurry, set a price alert and we'll email you if it falls. Every store is on the game page if you want to compare before you buy Selaco key.
