About Shadow Tactics Blades of the Shogun



Shadow Tactics is a hardcore tactical stealth game set in Japan around the Edo period.

Take control of a team of deadly specialists and sneak in the shadows between dozens of enemies. Choose your approach when infiltrating mighty castles, snowy mountain monasteries or hidden forest camps. Set traps, poison your opponents or completely avoid enemy contact.

The group is composed of very different personalities. Working together as a team seems impossible at first. Yet over the course of many missions, trust is won and friendships are made. The characters develop their own dynamic and each member will have to face their own personal demons.

One of the leaders of this team is Hayato, an agile ninja, who clears the way through his enemies silently, with his sword and shuriken. Samurai Mugen prefers a more powerful approach and can defeat more fiends at one time, but thus also forfeiting flexibility. Aiko is a master of camouflage when she distracts enemies disguised as a Geisha. And the street child Yuki places traps and decoys enemies towards their deadly fate. The mysterious marksman Takuma however, relies on his sniper rifle and takes care of the enemies from a distance.

The player has to carefully evaluate his options in order to master the challenging missions: how will the characters behave as a team? Which one is best equipped for each task? How can they best master the given missions? Come up with your own ingenious tactics to vanquish enemies and complete missions.

Shadow Tactics Blades of the Shogun is a game of action and stealth, which reminds us of the mythical saga Commandos where we drove a group of elite soldiers. In Shadow Tactics we will not take soldiers, but a group of ninjas with unique abilities and specialized in stealth and assassinations from the shadows. The missions in which we will can deploy these silent assassins are many, but they stand out for their ability in the nocturnal infiltrations in castles and mansions. We will have to study the actions of the groups of guards and find the best way to kill them, either by lightning attacks or by setting traps on their way. Teamwork will be essential if we want to achieve the objectives in each mission, since each of the ninjas is a specialist in a given area. Our group of ninjas is composed of Hayato, an agile ninja with sword and shuriken who prefers close combat. The Mugen Samurai who is also a master in melee whose specialty is to face numerous enemies at once. Aiko, who is a master of camouflage and murder in the back. Yuki, which is specializes in the placement of traps and lures. And last but not least, Takuma, an expert in remote combat thanks to his sniper rifle. It will depend of us to take the necessary actions and decisions to combine the different abilities of each of our ninjas to exterminate our objectives. We will must evaluate the situation of each mission and make the necessary decisions, not only to exterminate our objectives but to prevent our ninjas will be discovered.

Pros: + Brings back the genre that seems dead for too long + Great gameplay and level design and AI + Has high replay value because of varied ways to achieve goals and some intriguing achievements. + Good control schemes for both controller and mouse-and-keyboard. + Memorable characters with decent English dub. + The game is so well executed in so many ways, e.g. it even reminds you of saving by displaying the duration after your last saving.
