GamesPlanet kicked off its weekly sale on 12 October with more than 100 games, and The Alters is one of them. In our comparator this morning, GamesPlanet's US store has the Steam Key at €26.55 (no fees) and the Deluxe Edition at €37.54 (no fees). That sounds like a deal until you look at what resellers ask: the cheapest Steam Key costs about a third of that. GamesPlanet hasn't said when the sale ends, so we can't tell you how long that price holds.
Jan Dolski and the other Jans
The Alters comes from 11 bit studios, the people behind This War of Mine and Frostpunk. You play Jan Dolski, stranded alone on a planet where sunrise kills. To keep going he creates alters: versions of himself who made different choices in life and ended up as a scientist, a miner, a technician and so on. They all live in a wheel-shaped base that you have to keep rolling ahead of the sun.
Half the game is base management. The other half is talking to the other Jans and dealing with their grudges, which get personal fast when everyone shares your past. Steam users rate it "Very Positive" (13,982 of 15,535 reviews, 90%) and it sits at 84 on Metacritic.
GamesPlanet's price against the resellers
On Steam itself it costs €34.99 (no fees), its regular price. The cheapest Steam Key this morning is at G2A, Global region: €9.34 with coupon GCKG2AT6V1P (€9.63 with fees). That is 72% less than Steam and around €17 less than GamesPlanet's sale price. K4G, Kinguin, Eneba and Instant Gaming also have keys; their current prices are below.
Difmark shows something even lower, €5.87 with coupon Gocdkeys (€6.13 with fees), but it is a Steam Account. You get a separate Steam account with the game already on it, so it never lands in the library you use now. We'd go for the key.
