ArcheAge Chronicles, the new MMO from XLGAMES, the studio behind the original ArcheAge, opens its Early Access on Steam on 3 November. No launch time has been announced yet. Pre-orders are already live, and Steam is selling it for €29.99 (no fees).

It starts out on PC only. A console version is planned for later, but nobody has put a date on it.

What the pre-order includes

There's a single edition, the Early Access one, and you pay once: there's no monthly subscription. Pre-ordering adds the Dawn Pioneer Outfit Chest, an outfit chest you can redeem once per character.

The cheapest place to buy it right now is Steam itself, which is also the official store. You get the Steam version straight into your library, with nothing added at checkout.

No reseller had a cheaper Steam key this morning. Every offer to buy ArcheAge Chronicles key is on the game page if you want to compare.

The Difmark offer and why we'd pass on it

Bear in mind that €29.99 (no fees) is simply the price Steam opened pre-orders at, not a discount.

Difmark sells it too, but as a Steam account, not a key: €33.59 with the Gocdkeys coupon (€35.10 with fees). So it's dearer than Steam, and you'd be getting the login for somebody else's Steam account that already owns the game. It never appears in your own library, and if the seller recovers the account, the game goes with it.

Is it worth pre-ordering now?

If you already know you'll play it, waiting doesn't gain you much. No store sells it for less than Steam, and the outfit chest only comes with the pre-order. Steam's refund policy also covers pre-purchases, so you can request your money back if you change your mind; check Steam's own terms for the details.

Just keep in mind this is an MMO in Early Access. What arrives on 3 November won't be the finished game. Expect content to be missing, systems to change from one update to the next and some bugs along the way. If you'd rather hear what the first players think before paying, set a price alert and we'll email you if it drops.

PC requirements

You'll need a fairly recent machine. Both specs call for a 64-bit processor and operating system and 100 GB of free space.

  • Minimum: Windows 10 64-bit, Intel Core i5-12400 or AMD Ryzen 5 5600, 16 GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Ti.
  • Recommended: Windows 11 64-bit, Intel Core i7-12700 or AMD Ryzen 7 5700X, 32 GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 Ti.

Hold off on the console version

We already have pages for the Xbox and PS5 versions, and resellers such as Key4Games and Difmark are selling accounts on both. We wouldn't buy any of them. XLGAMES hasn't given the console release a date, so you'd be paying now for something you can't play and don't know when you will, and on top of that it's an account rather than a copy of your own. If you play on console, set a price alert on the Xbox or PS5 page and wait for an official date.

Prices checked on the morning of 29 October.
