NACON has released a new trailer for Edge of Memories, confirmed 5 November as the launch date and published the official PC specs. Pre-orders are open on PS5 and Xbox; on PC the picture is messier.
A French studio's take on the classic JRPG
Edge of Memories is an action RPG from Midgar Studio, a French developer, with NACON publishing. It borrows openly from the classic JRPGs, and its look mixes French animation with Japanese anime.
It isn't out yet, so there are no Steam reviews to go on. What we can tell you is what a pre-order costs today on each platform, and it varies quite a bit between them.
The PC specs
NACON's figures for the minimum setup:
- Intel Core i7-8700K or AMD Ryzen 5 1600X
- 16 GB of RAM
- GeForce GTX 1060, Radeon RX 590 or Intel Arc A580
- 22 GB of free space
The recommended spec asks for an Intel Core i5-12600K or AMD Ryzen 5 7600, the same 16 GB of RAM and a GeForce RTX 3070, Radeon RX 6750 XT or Intel Arc B580.
PS5: the official store sets the pace
On PS5 the PlayStation Store has it at €39.99 (no fees), PSN Key, and that's the only copy of your own we can find. Difmark lists it at €33.59 with the coupon Gocdkeys (€35.10 with fees), but it's an Account: you get the login to somebody else's account with the game on it, rather than a copy on yours. That's €4.89 less than the official store, but for an account you don't own, on a game nobody has played yet. We prefer your own copy; the choice is yours.
Xbox: a boxed copy from Amazon UK
The cheapest pre-order you keep on Xbox is a physical copy at Amazon UK for €37.20 (no fees), €2.79 less than the PSN Key on PS5. It's the British Amazon, so if you live elsewhere, check the delivery cost before you order. Difmark has the same Account deal here as on PS5, €33.59 with the coupon Gocdkeys (€35.10 with fees).
On PC, there's nothing worth pre-ordering yet
No shop has a sensibly priced key for the PC version yet. There's a Steam Account at Difmark for €16.79 with the coupon Gocdkeys (€17.55 with fees), and a Green Man Gaming pre-order at €99.99 (no fees) that makes no sense to pay. The sensible move is to set a price alert and wait for proper keys to appear.
Pre-order today or hold off?
Reserving on PS5 saves you nothing today: the official €39.99 is the only price for a code of your own. On Xbox, the Amazon UK copy is the cheapest one you keep, as long as delivery doesn't eat the difference. On PC, wait. When keys do appear, they'll show up on our buy Edge of Memories key page, and the alert will tell you as soon as one is worth having.
