Reissad Studio has opened a free playtest on Steam for Locked & Loaded, the Bodycam update that has yet to ship. You request access from the game's own Steam page. That is the whole announcement, and there is nothing else in it: no requirements, no patch notes, no schedule.
What happens afterwards is the part worth writing about. Bodycam sits on Mostly Positive with 33,378 of its 43,919 Steam reviews in the green, so there is a decent chance the test gets its hooks into you. And if it does, our PC page is waiting with 23 live offers across 9 shops — the four cheapest of which do not sell you the game at all.
The playtest ends, and nothing stays behind
Worth spelling out, because a free build sitting in your library feels an awful lot like ownership. The playtest shows up in Steam while the test is open and vanishes the moment Reissad closes it. No purchase takes place, no code changes hands, and everything you play becomes telemetry for the studio rather than a save you keep. Free, yes. Yours, no.
Account, gift, code: the same game, three very different purchases
Every offer we show carries a format label beside the price. On this game that label decides whether you own anything at the end of it, so give it thirty seconds before you look at the figure.
- Steam Key — a code you redeem yourself, on your account. Bodycam drops into your library and stays there no matter what becomes of the seller afterwards. When one of these exists, it is what we tell people to buy.
- Steam Gift — a stranger sends you the game as a present out of their own library. It does land on your account, but there is no code to keep on file and the whole thing depends on that transfer going through cleanly.
- Steam Account — what is for sale is access to somebody else's profile. You play from their login, your own friends list and achievements have nothing to do with any of it, and the day the password changes there is nobody to take it up with.
Four offers under fifteen euros, and none of them is a purchase
Sorted by price, the page opens with Gamivo at 8.33 euros, Kinguin at 9.95, CJS-CDKeys at 12.88 and G2A at 14.27. Steam Account, all four. Live, the cheapest is € (with coupon GCDKGamivo) at Gamivo, and that is the figure that makes Bodycam look like a steal on any list that prints prices without formats.
Further up the scale, nearly everything between 29 and 43 euros is Steam Gift: Driffle at 29.44 euros, two Gamivo entries at 29.65, Driffle again at 32.99, K4G at 33.99, G2A at 34.32, Kinguin at 35.34, then 37.20, 37.53 and 37.94, a pair of G2A offers at 42.61 and 42.67, and Difmark Digital Keys furthest out at 51.13. Today's cheapest gift is € (with coupon GOCDKEYS10). A gift really is a copy of the game on your account, which puts it in a different league from a shared login, but you still walk away from the transaction with nothing in your hand.
Steam's own shop is 2.94 euros cheaper than the first reseller code
Now the bit that costs us money. The cheapest Standard copy on the entire page is Steam's own, €, and the first genuine Steam Key from a reseller is CJS-CDKeys at 36.26 euros. That code costs 2.94 euros more than the official copy, for the same game plus one extra step. We earn when you click through to a shop and we earn nothing when you buy on Steam, and we are still sending you to Steam today.
| Shop | Price | What you actually get |
|---|---|---|
| Gamivo | €8.33 | Steam Account |
| G2A | €14.27 | Steam Account |
| Driffle | €29.44 | Steam Gift |
| Steam | €33.32 | Standard, the official copy |
| CJS-CDKeys | €36.26 | Steam Key |
| Gamivo | €164.74 | Standard |
| Kinguin | €167.66 | Standard |
The last two rows there are not a formatting accident. Gamivo at 164.74 euros and Kinguin at 167.66 euros, both filed as Standard, close out the list and we have no explanation to offer for either of them. Keep scrolling.
Redeeming a code, in four clicks
If you do end up holding a Steam Key, activating it takes less time than the download. Open Steam, click Add a Game at the bottom left, choose Activate a Product on Steam and paste in the code you were sent. Bodycam then appears in your library like any other purchase. Do it the same day you buy: if the code turns out to be dead, a shop's support desk is a great deal more helpful in the first few hours than it is a fortnight later.
Is it worth waiting for the next official discount?
We hold 1,226 price checks on this game. The floor across the whole record is 7.13 euros, and it was a Steam Account, as was every monthly low near it: 7.86, 7.30, 7.13, 7.40 and 7.40 euros. Average out all the live offers in those same months, formats jumbled together, and you get 30.75, 27.82, 24.76, 24.23 and 26.25 euros. The cheap end of this page has never once been a copy you keep.
Valve's own figures answer the question. Steam has spent most of our record asking 33.32 euros for the Standard edition, but it has also taken that copy down to 9.75 euros in two separate months and to 26.65 euros in a third. If the playtest leaves you curious rather than desperate, the next official sale beats paying 36.26 euros for a Steam Key today by a distance.
All 23 offers with the format printed next to the price are on buy Bodycam key, and the full run of measurements lives on the Bodycam price history. Play the test, enjoy it for nothing, and look at the page again before you spend anything.
