Reissad Studio has opened a free playtest on Steam for Locked & Loaded, the Bodycam update that has not shipped yet. You request access from the game's own Steam page. That is the entire announcement, so that is all we are going to tell you: no requirements, no patch notes, no schedule.

The part worth writing about is what comes after. Bodycam sits on Mostly Positive with 33,378 of its 43,919 Steam reviews in the green, so there is a fair chance the test hooks you. And if it does, our PC page is waiting with 23 live offers across 9 shops, four of which do not sell you the game at all.

The playtest ends, and nothing stays behind

Worth spelling out, because a free build in your library feels a lot like owning something. It is not. The playtest appears in Steam while the test is open and disappears the moment Reissad switches it off. No purchase happens, no code changes hands, and whatever you play turns into telemetry for the studio rather than a save you keep. It is free, and it is on loan.

Account, gift, code: the same game, three very different purchases

Every offer we show carries a format label next to the price. On this game the label decides whether you own anything afterwards, so it earns thirty seconds of your attention.

  • Steam Key — a code you redeem yourself, on your account. Bodycam lands in your library and stays there whatever happens to the seller later. Whenever one exists, this is what we tell people to buy.
  • Steam Gift — a stranger sends you the game as a present from their own library. It does arrive on your account, but there is no code to file away and the whole thing rides on that transfer going through cleanly.
  • Steam Account — what is on sale is access to somebody else's profile. You play from their login, your friends list and your achievements have nothing to do with it, and the day the password changes there is no one to complain to.

Four offers under fifteen euros, and none of them is a purchase

Sorted by price, the page opens with Gamivo at 8.33 euros, Kinguin at 9.95, CJS-CDKeys at 12.88 and G2A at 14.27. All four are Steam Account. Live, the cheapest of them is 7.41 (with coupon GCDKGamivo) at Gamivo, and that is the number that makes Bodycam look like a steal on any list that prints figures without formats.

Above that band, almost everything between 29 and 43 euros is Steam Gift: Driffle at 29.44 euros, two Gamivo entries at 29.65, Driffle again at 32.99, K4G at 33.99, G2A at 34.32, Kinguin at 35.34, then 37.20, 37.53 and 37.94, two G2A offers at 42.61 and 42.67, and Difmark Digital Keys on top at 51.13. The cheapest gift today is 25.20 (with coupon GCDKGamivo). A gift is a genuine copy sitting on your account, which puts it a long way above a shared login, but you still finish the transaction with nothing in your hand.

Steam's own shop is 2.94 euros cheaper than the first reseller code

Here is the bit that costs us money. The cheapest Standard copy on the whole page belongs to Steam itself, 33.32, and the first genuine Steam Key from a reseller is CJS-CDKeys at 36.26 euros. The code is 2.94 euros dearer than the official copy, for the same game and one extra step. We get paid when you click through to a shop and we get nothing when you buy on Steam, and we would still point you at Steam today.

ShopPriceWhat you actually get
Gamivo€8.33Steam Account
G2A€14.27Steam Account
Driffle€29.44Steam Gift
Steam€33.32Standard, the official copy
CJS-CDKeys€36.26Steam Key
Gamivo€164.74Standard
Kinguin€167.66Standard

Those last two rows are not typos. Gamivo at 164.74 euros and Kinguin at 167.66 euros, both filed as Standard, sit at the bottom of the page and we have no explanation to offer for either. Scroll past them.

Before you pay: read the format label before you read the number. At 8.33 euros nothing about Bodycam is cheap; what is cheap is a stranger's password, and it lasts exactly as long as they feel like it.

Redeeming a code, in four clicks

If you do end up with a Steam Key, activating it takes less time than the download. Open Steam, click Add a Game at the bottom left, choose Activate a Product on Steam and paste the code you were sent. Bodycam then shows up in your library like any other purchase. Do it the same day you buy: if the code turns out to be dead, a shop's support desk is far more helpful in the first few hours than a fortnight later.

Is it worth waiting for the next official discount?

We hold 1,226 price checks on this game. The floor of the whole series is 7.13 euros and it was a Steam Account, like every monthly low around it: 7.86, 7.30, 7.13, 7.40 and 7.40 euros. Averaged across all the live offers of those same months, formats mixed together, the figures come out at 30.75, 27.82, 24.76, 24.23 and 26.25 euros. So the cheap end of this page has never once been a copy you keep.

The number that answers the question is Valve's. Steam has asked 33.32 euros for the Standard edition almost the entire time we have been watching, but it has also dropped that copy to 9.75 euros in two separate months and to 26.65 euros in a third. If the playtest leaves you curious rather than impatient, the next official sale is a much better deal than 36.26 euros for a Steam Key today.

All 23 offers with their format next to the price are on buy Bodycam key, and the full run of measurements lives on the Bodycam price history. Play the test, enjoy it for free, and check the page again before you spend anything.
