Steam players have tagged 153 of the PC games in our price comparison with "Cats". In plenty of them the cat is just passing through. We wanted the ones where you play the cat, or where the whole game revolves around one, and we only kept games that had offers in stock this morning.
So you won't find Nine Sols, inZOI, while True: learn, In Sound Mind, Animal Shelter or Story of Seasons here: the cat is a side detail in all of them. Licensed karts and brawlers like Garfield Kart and Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl are out too, as is Warrior Cats: Clans of the Forest, which sits at Mixed on Steam with 48% positive reviews, and anything only a shop or two sells. That leaves sixteen.
Every price is the cheapest Steam key we found today, first without payment fees (with the coupon code, if there is one) and then in brackets with the shop's fee added.
Two cats lost in the city: Stray and Little Kitty, Big City
Stray is the one even people without a cat have heard of. BlueTwelve made it and Annapurna published it. You're a lost stray in a walled city where only robots are left, travelling with B-12, a small drone that translates for you and stores memories. It's a third-person adventure built on platforming and puzzles, and it's over in a few hours. With 159,011 reviews, 97% of them positive, nothing else here comes close in sheer numbers.
Steam charges €28.49 (no fees). Gamivo has the key for €7.46 (€8.71 with fees) with the code GCDKGamivo. You'll also spot a Steam account at Key4Games for €2.13 (€2.48 with fees) with GOCDKEYS15, and that's a different product: you get the login to someone else's Steam account that already has the game, so it never shows up in your own library. We recommend the key, which you redeem on your own account. Stray also made our list of the best cyberpunk games on PC.
Little Kitty, Big City from Double Dagger Studio goes the other way: no robots, no danger. A black kitten tumbles out of its apartment window and has to get home across a Japanese-inspired city. On the way it tries on hats, herds ducks, puts up with a crow that won't leave it alone and naps wherever it likes. Anyone can play it, kids included.
The cheapest key is at Driffle, €15.28 (€16.23 with fees) with GOCDKEYS10, against €24.07 (no fees) on Steam. Ready to buy Little Kitty, Big City key? The best offers are just below. Happy to wait? Set a price alert and we'll email you when it drops.
All three Cat Quest games for less than one on Steam
The Gentlebros' series is action RPG in an open world drawn like a map, with quick fights and a cat pun every few steps. What changes from one game to the next is the setting.
- Cat Quest is set in the kingdom of Felingard. €1.19 (no fees) at Instant Gaming; €12.99 on Steam, no fees.
- Cat Quest II pairs a cat king with a dog king, and two people can play on one PC. At 95% of 5,891 reviews it's the best rated of the three. €2.49 (no fees) at Cdkeys Com; €14.99 on Steam, no fees.
- Cat Quest III goes pirate: you sail a ship around an archipelago, with co-op again. €1.97 (€2.68 with fees) at Eneba with Gocdkeys10; €19.99 on Steam, no fees.
Add them up and the whole trilogy comes to €5.65 without fees, or €6.36 with fees. The first game alone costs €12.99 (no fees) on Steam.
For the story: Night in the Woods, Blacksad and Copycat
Mae has dropped out of college and gone back to Possum Springs, her hometown, where things aren't going well. Night in the Woods by Infinite Fall is played mostly through conversation, and the themes are grown-up ones. No shop beats Steam on the key: €9.75 (no fees). K4G sells an account for €1.29 (€1.80 with fees) with GCDK14DEAL, with the same catch we explained under Stray.
Blacksad: Under the Skin is based on the comic by Juan Díaz Canales and Juanjo Guarnido. Pendulo Studios developed it and Microids published it. You play John Blacksad, cat and private eye in fifties New York, in a narrative adventure where you make the calls. At 83% of 5,400 reviews it has the lowest score of the sixteen, though Steam still files that under Very Positive. It's also the cheapest on Steam at €2.99 (no fees), and Instant Gaming has it for €1.69 (no fees).
Keep tissues handy for Copycat, a short narrative game from Spoonful of Wonder. You're Dawn, a cat adopted from a shelter who's scared of being abandoned again. HRKGame has it at €1.56 (€1.96 with fees) with Gocdkeys12; Steam wants €14.79 (no fees).
Breeding cats, running a café, living in the forest
Mewgenics comes from Edmund McMillen, of The Binding of Isaac, and Tyler Glaiel. You breed cats, every kitten inherits traits and mutations from its parents, and then you send them into turn-based tactical fights with a roguelike structure. 90% of its 51,420 reviews are positive. Nobody sells the key below Steam's €28.99 (no fees) yet. We covered it in more depth in our piece on Mewgenics coming to Xbox and which PC version to pick.
In Cat Cafe Manager by Roast Games you run a café, take in strays and serve the townsfolk. Gamivo has the key at €0.97 (€1.75 with fees) with GCDKGamivo. The fee nearly doubles the price, but Steam's €18.49 (no fees) is in another league.
Cattails: Wildwood Story from Falcon Development is a life sim where you're a forest cat: you join a colony, hunt, fish, grow crops, make friends or find a mate. 97% of 1,505 reviews are positive. €1.03 (€1.51 with fees) at Gameseal with SEAL17CKD; €3.90 on Steam, no fees.
Under €10: hidden cats, a mech suit, buttered toast and plushie carnage
A Castle Full of Cats is a hidden-object game: you look for cats tucked into hand-drawn scenes. With 99% of 4,106 reviews positive, it shares the top score on this list with its sequel, A Tower Full of Cats (99% of 2,326). The first one is €1.51 (€2.18 with fees) at Eneba with Gocdkeys10, against €3.90 (no fees) on Steam. For the sequel, Steam itself is cheapest at €5.89 (no fees).
Gato Roboto is a short black-and-white metroidvania by doinksoft, published by Devolver Digital. Kiki the cat climbs into a mech suit to rescue her owner after they crash on a planet. €1.09 (no fees) at Instant Gaming, €7.79 on Steam with no fees.
Cats land on their feet. Buttered toast lands butter side down. Strap the toast to the cat's back and, according to the old paradox, it just spins in mid-air. CATO: Buttered Cat builds a puzzle platformer on that idea, and 98% of its 2,837 reviews are positive. Kinguin has the key for €8.32 (€9.33 with fees) with NOVGOC10, not far under Steam's €10.79 (no fees). Key4Games sells an account at €4.98 (€5.46 with fees).
Last, the odd one out. Gori: Cuddly Carnage puts a cat on a hoverboard and has it slice through hordes of monstrous plush toys, fast and very gory. Not one for the kids. Difmark Digital Keys sells it for €1.13 (€1.18 with fees) with the code Gocdkeys; Steam charges €17.98 (no fees).
