The remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is out today, Thursday 5 November, and it's a Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive. It rebuilds the Nintendo 64 classic, and the first question for most people is which copy to get: a cheaper eShop code, a shared account, Nintendo's own store, or the old game through Switch Online.
What the critics say
The remake sits at 96 on Metacritic, the average of the press reviews. The N64 original still holds a 99 there, so the bar was high from the start. The complaint that keeps coming up is the missing Master Quest, which isn't included here. There are no player reviews to quote: it's a Nintendo game and isn't on Steam.
The cheapest eShop code this morning
The lowest eShop code was at Driffle, €50.44 with coupon GOCDKEYS10 (€52.66 with fees). Driffle lists it as the United States version, and eShop codes are tied to a region, so check it matches your Nintendo account before paying. Cdkeys and Instant Gaming both had a code at €54.29, before each store's payment fees. The official eShop (Nintendo Italy) asks €59.99 (no fees). The offers below update live.
A code is redeemed on your own Nintendo account, so the game stays with you.
The account option at Key4Games
Key4Games has the lowest figure overall: an account at €41.40 with coupon GOCDKEYS15 (€43.52 with fees). That gets you access to someone else's Nintendo account, and the game never ends up in your name. For about €9 more, we'd take the code.
Is today's price a record?
We only have 15 days of history, counted from pre-orders, so there's no real trend yet. The lowest we had recorded was €54.29 (no fees) on 21 October, and today's Driffle code is below that. Media Markt and PCcomponentes also stock the game, at higher prices than the codes. If you can wait, set a price alert and we'll email you when it drops. All the offers are on the page to buy Zelda: Ocarina of Time key.
Remake or the N64 version?
If you just want to replay the original, the N64 game is already in the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack library, included in that subscription. There was also a 3DS version, but that needs the old handheld. The remake makes sense if you want the new look on Switch 2 and don't mind paying full price for a game you may know by heart.
