Street Fighter V sales paused on Steam and PS Store: what still works and what it costs on PC

Capcom has temporarily stopped selling Street Fighter V on Steam and PS4 during security maintenance. Online is down; Steam keys from €3.96 (€4.85 with fees).

Try to buy Street Fighter V on Steam or the PlayStation Store right now and you may find you can't. Capcom has paused sales of the game on both stores, along with the Steam codes it sells through Capcom Town, its own web shop. The pause is temporary and lasts until Capcom finishes fixing things, but nobody has said how long that will take.

Why Capcom took it off sale

On 27 October Capcom announced emergency maintenance to update the security of the PHP the game runs on. It was the second one in under a week: on 21 October it had already called an emergency maintenance over what it described as an "unforeseen issue".

While the work goes on, sales are being switched off in stages on the PlayStation Store (the PS4 version) and on Steam (PC). You'll see some sites calling this a delisting. Capcom hasn't said anything of the sort; what it has announced is a suspension until the fixes are done.

Online modes are down, offline ones still work

On the Steam version, anything that needs a connection is offline: Capcom Fighters Network, ranked matches, casual matches and Battle Lounge. Arcade, Story, local Versus and Training all still work.

There's no date yet for online play coming back, and none for the game returning to the stores either.

PC prices this morning

Resellers still have it. We're tracking 33 live offers for the PC version, all of them Steam keys, and prices haven't moved much since the news came out. These are the cheapest:

  • Gamivo: €3.96 with the GCDKGamivo coupon (€4.85 with fees), Steam key.
  • G2A: €4.64 with the GCKG2AF1P6K coupon (€4.93 with fees), global Steam key.
  • Driffle: €4.38 with the GOCDKEYS10 coupon (€4.94 with fees), EU Steam key.
  • Instant Gaming: €5.99 (no fees), Steam key.

Some history to judge that by, using key prices without fees: the median across our records is €5.29 and the all-time low was €2.49, back in September two years ago. Of the 680 days we've been tracking it, only 140 were cheaper than today. So you're paying slightly under its usual price, which is fine, but it isn't a steal either. You'll find every offer to buy Street Fighter V key on the game page. Check the region in each offer's name (EU, global, North America) before you pay.

The Arcade Edition is another matter. It barely has any offers, and the only one we can see is €175.98 with a coupon at Eneba (€191.71 with fees), which makes no sense for a game this old. If you're after the Champion Edition, Yuplay has keys for €6.88 (no fees).

Is it worth buying right now?

That depends on what you want it for. Arcade, the story mode and local matches against a friend on the sofa all work today, and around €5 is not much to pay for that. If you want it for ranked or for Battle Lounge, though, you'd be paying for something you can't use yet, with no date for when you will.

We also can't tell you for certain whether the keys resellers already hold will activate normally while sales are paused. A Steam key usually redeems even when the game isn't for sale on the store, but Capcom hasn't said anything and we haven't been able to check it ourselves. If you do buy, pick a store that refunds you if the key fails, and keep your receipt.

For online fights, Street Fighter 6 is the current game in the series, and our guide to the Street Fighter 6 editions explains what each one includes. If you'd rather wait until Street Fighter V is back to normal, set a price alert and we'll email you when it drops.

And on PS4?

The PlayStation Store isn't selling it at the moment either. Our PS4 page has just two offers: the disc at Amazon France for €39.48 (no fees), and a PS4 account at Difmark for €5.87 with the Gocdkeys coupon (€6.13 with fees). That account isn't your own copy. You get the login for someone else's PSN account that already owns the game, and if the seller takes it back, you lose access. We'd steer clear of it.

Prices checked on the morning of 30 October.
