Yesterday follows John Yesterday, an amnesiac detective hired to investigate a series of murders targeting homeless individuals in New York City. What begins as a straightforward case spirals into a dark mystery involving ancient occult rituals, the Spanish Inquisition, and supernatural secrets that challenge everything the protagonist believes about his own identity.

The game employs a classic point-and-click adventure interface, guiding players through richly detailed environments as they gather clues, interact with morally ambiguous characters, and solve environmental puzzles. The narrative unfolds across multiple chapters, each revealing new layers of conspiracy and deception. Players must carefully examine surroundings, collect items, and engage in dialogue trees that shape the story's progression toward one of several possible endings.

Yesterday distinguishes itself through its psychological thriller atmosphere and mature storytelling approach. Unlike lighter adventure games, it commits fully to a dark, somber tone with genuinely unsettling imagery and morally complex characters. The game's visual presentation combines hand-drawn backgrounds with animated sequences that evoke cinematic quality, creating an immersive noir aesthetic that sets it apart from contemporary adventure titles.

The title appeals to players seeking narrative-driven experiences with substance and atmosphere. Those familiar with Pendulo Studios' Runaway series will recognize the developer's signature blend of puzzle-solving and character-driven storytelling, though Yesterday leans significantly darker. The game rewards careful observation and player investment in its mystery, offering a complete experience in approximately 8 hours of gameplay.
