Play as Josef Petrescu, a man scarred by tragedy who awakens horribly burned, voiceless, and memoryless. As Vlad Petrescu's brother and co-heir to Vlad Circus, Josef embarks on a harrowing journey to uncover the truth behind his past. Asmodeus is a parasite that attaches itself to humans in an attempt to feed on their sanity. Josef wakes up in a mysterious hospital beneath a church after being executed by electric chair, left disfigured, unable to speak, and unable to remember how he got there.

The game pushes horror game storytelling forward with its unique mechanics of navigating parallel timelines, allowing you to pass through mirrors to shift between fragmented memories. The core gameplay uses escape room-style inventory puzzles as a primary mechanic, requiring you to use items found around the area to slowly unlock each door and unveil who has done this to you and why. Despite being best played with a controller, its puzzle aspects play very much like a point-and-click game with a lot of inventory-based conundrums, including objectives such as finding keys and fetching items, with puzzle solutions that are quite logical and incredibly satisfying to solve.

The game's simple pixel art style sets it apart from modern realistic horror titles, and this visual simplicity works with its psychological approach, building tension through mystery and anticipation rather than jump scares. The audio enhances the horror edge with atmospheric music driving home the horrible story, while uncomfortable ambient sounds and strange noises fill the silence, creating a game that never lets you take a breath.

Unlike its predecessor, Curse of Asmodeus doesn't follow the same survival horror path, instead trading survival horror gameplay for more straightforward adventure game puzzling with simple yet enjoyable puzzles. The game has plenty of fetch quests and old-school puzzle elements to appeal to an older generation. This is an ideal experience for players who appreciate psychological horror, intricate puzzle design, and narrative-driven adventures that prioritize atmosphere and story over action.
