Sulfur is a roguelike first-person shooter that blends intense gunplay with deep RPG progression systems. You play as a priest navigating a bizarre afterlife realm, guided by a talking amulet, as you venture deeper into perilous depths filled with monsters, cultists, and mutated abominations. Each descent is a high-stakes expedition where every decision carries weight—the gear you bring can be lost, and anything left behind won't be there to help you.

The core gameplay loop revolves around tactical combat and strategic loadout planning. Before each run, you carefully select from over 60 firearms, equipment pieces, and enchantments to forge a unique build. As you progress through each area, you'll discover loot, uncover secrets, and face increasingly brutal encounters. The choice is yours: overwhelm enemies with raw firepower or outsmart them through careful planning and positioning. Combat feels visceral and responsive, with satisfying gunplay mechanics that reward both aggression and tactical thinking.

What sets Sulfur apart is its seamless fusion of FPS mechanics with RPG depth. The enchantment system offers 54 distinct enchantments, including 45 combined variations, allowing for creative build experimentation. Weapon customization goes beyond simple upgrades—you can combine attachments and enchantments in countless ways to create builds that match your playstyle. Cooking mechanics add another layer, letting you craft consumables that provide tactical advantages during runs.

The game's charming yet eerie art style—reminiscent of early 2000s cartoons but rendered in a darker, more ominous tone—creates a distinctive visual identity. This aesthetic contrast between the whimsical presentation and brutal combat creates an engaging tension that keeps the experience fresh. You'll piece together a fragmented narrative as you progress, uncovering the witch's true motives and the dark truth behind this world.

Sulfur appeals to players who enjoy roguelike structure combined with demanding combat, those seeking deep customization systems, and fans of boomer shooters looking for modern design sensibilities. Whether you're chasing high-risk, high-reward playstyles or prefer methodical, strategic approaches, the game accommodates diverse preferences. The complete story is now available in the 1.0 release, alongside significant balancing improvements and quality-of-life enhancements.
