The game is divided into individual runs, with each run consisting of three distinct levels, culminating in a boss encounter. Between these levels, players gain access to break rooms where they can upgrade their weapons and abilities. In true roguelite fashion, death is never the end, and each run opens the door to new strategies and limitless possibilities across the Shatterverse.

Wield a relentlessly destructive arsenal of devastating weapons, unlock powerful boons, and experiment with run modifiers that reshape gameplay. Familiar foes are back, and they brought friends—face a selection of classic Serious Sam enemies alongside fresh monsters, all under Mental's control, all engineered to overwhelm you, and all begging to be turned into mush. High-adrenaline, run-and-gun arena chaos features big battlefields, nonstop pressure, and perfectly-timed one-liners when everything's on fire.

Shatterverse breaks with the classic linear structure of the main series and instead relies on procedurally varying playthroughs in an unstable multiverse. Up to five players join forces to push through shifting runs and take down Mental's lieutenants. This represents a significant departure from traditional Serious Sam design, modernizing the franchise through cooperative multiplayer and roguelite progression systems while maintaining the series' signature high-speed, horde-clearing combat identity.
