MakeRoom is a sandbox building game that invites players to design and furnish miniature dioramas with over 1,100 objects. Developed by Kenney and published by Wholesome Games Presents, the game launched on Steam in August 2025 and offers a relaxing creative experience centered on interior design and decoration.

The core gameplay loop revolves around two complementary modes. Players can begin with guided design requests that teach fundamental mechanics—creating cozy rooms for cats, moody hideaways for vampires, or other themed spaces—before transitioning to freeform building. This progression from structured challenges to open-ended creativity ensures both newcomers and experienced builders find engaging content.

What distinguishes MakeRoom is its robust furniture creation system. Beyond selecting from a pre-built catalog, players can construct custom furniture and decorative items from modular parts, then share their creations through Steam Workshop integration. This depth of customization, combined with the ability to design rooms, gardens, and camper vans, provides nearly endless creative possibilities within a compact, isometric-view interface.

The game emphasizes accessibility and comfort over complexity. There is no time pressure or failure states—players can spend ten minutes or ten hours on a single build. The minimalist aesthetic and colorful, stylized visuals create an inviting atmosphere suited to relaxation and creative expression.

MakeRoom appeals to players who enjoy life simulation games, interior design, and cozy indie titles. It is ideal for those seeking a low-stress creative outlet that respects their pace and celebrates individual artistic vision. The game's family-friendly design (PEGI 3) makes it accessible to a broad audience.
