This release offers a third-person melee combat experience, where players can face each other in intense multiplayer duels, utilizing characters from different warrior cultures: Knights, Vikings, Samurai, and Wu Lin. Each faction features unique fighting styles, iconic weapons, and a unique story marked by war, honor, and survival.
Over the years, For Honor has expanded its roster of fighters, and this edition includes both previously released characters and new Year 9 combatants.
These include the Centurion, a Roman warrior with a gladius; the Gladiator, agile and lethal with his trident; the Scottish Highlander with his massive claymore; the Viking Shaman, ferocious with her axe and dagger; the Shinobi, an agile samurai who fights with a kusarigama; or the Aramusha, who wields two katanas with great skill.
Also joining the ranks are fighters from the Wu Lin faction, such as Jiang Jun, an expert with the guandao; the Shaolin, skilled with a staff; and the Zhanhu, who uses a long, curved sword called a changdao. Other notable fighters include the Dark Prior, the Jormungandr with his warhammer, and the Hitokiri with his masakari axe.
The game's combat system, called Art of Battle, allows players to feel every impact and maneuver realistically, focusing on precise movement control, strategy, and timing. This mechanic, combined with the need for teamwork and tactical planning, makes each confrontation an intense and challenging experience.
The factions have narrative backgrounds that enrich the experience: the Samurai, nomads seeking to found a new homeland after centuries of exile; the Knights, staunch defenders of their domains against multiple threats; and the Vikings, fearsome warriors who have returned with a vengeance after years of extinction, determined to reclaim their ancestral lands.
For Honor: Year 9 thus offers a fusion of visceral action, epic narrative, and technical combat that remains fresh with each new content addition.
