Daemonologie is a short folk horror experience set during the Scottish witch trials of the late 1600s, rebuilt from the ground up in Unreal Engine 5. You assume the role of a witchfinder summoned to a remote Scottish village to identify and root out the witch responsible for the community's misfortunes. The core gameplay loop centers on interrogation and investigation: speak with villagers, listen to their testimonies, cross-reference their claims, and decide who to trust. If dialogue alone yields insufficient answers, you have permission to employ darker methods of persuasion—torture becomes a tool at your disposal, though its moral weight hangs heavy throughout.

The game's investigative mechanics demand active engagement. There is no hand-holding; you must take notes and piece together contradictions yourself. Each day concludes with prophetic, stop-motion-style nightmares that may contain cryptic clues. Multiple playthroughs are necessary to uncover the full picture, as interwoven narratives reveal themselves gradually across sessions. Your choices determine who hangs on the final morning—a decision with irreversible consequences.

What sets Daemonologie apart is its unflinching examination of witch trial hysteria. The game positions you as an active perpetrator of horror rather than a neutral observer, forcing complicity in the violence of the era. The hand-drawn pixel art and nightmarish stop-motion animations create an unsettling gothic atmosphere—foggy highlands, decrepit homes, and shadowed forests amplify the dread. The original soundtrack shifts with the narrative mood, using recurring motifs that gain meaning across playthroughs.

This title appeals to players seeking narrative depth and moral complexity over action-driven gameplay. It demands patience, note-taking, and willingness to confront uncomfortable themes. The experience is deliberately brief—designed for single-sitting playthroughs—yet rewards careful observation and multiple returns. Daemonologie is ideal for those interested in historical horror, interactive fiction, and games that use their medium to critique rather than glorify dark subject matter.
