Bahamut and the Waqwaq Tree is a 2D adventure game inspired by Arabian and Middle Eastern mythology. Dive into an immersive underwater realm, explore diverse areas of the cosmic sea, restore the ocean's radiance, and uncover the secrets of an ancient mystery. The thriving ocean paradise Ma'een has fallen into darkness, corrupted by mysterious forces. As the chosen hero, you will wield the power of light to restore balance. Your journey will intertwine with the mythical creatures Bahamut, the colossal whale, and Falak, the giant serpent.

The gameplay has you exploring the watery environments, searching for checkpoints that look like floating stone structures, refilling your light barrier, and saving your progress at the same time. Your main weapon will be the light, which has a limited charge, and as long as it is deployed, you cannot be harmed. You'll have to figure out the way to cover distances while keeping enough light to reach the next checkpoint. Inspired by Arabic calligraphy, the game features a smooth, brush-like movement system that lends itself to environmental puzzles that must be solved by drawing shapes using the player character.

Your task is to navigate the dark, corrupted areas to repel the lurking Dujaa and restore balance to Ma'een. While its minimalist and occasionally repetitive gameplay may not seem particularly fun at first glance, the gameplay loop proves surprisingly engaging, offering moments of difficulty and challenge that help maintain the player's attention. Guided by the elegance of Arabic calligraphy, movement in Bahamut and the Waqwaq Tree flows like ink on a page.

The game has already earned multiple awards, including the 'Graphics Galore' prize at last year's DevCom Indie Awards. This title appeals to players seeking atmospheric, story-driven experiences with a focus on exploration and puzzle-solving rather than combat. The cultural richness of Arabian mythology combined with fluid underwater aesthetics creates a meditative yet challenging adventure suitable for both casual and dedicated indie game enthusiasts.
