Backyard Baseball returns as a modernized arcade baseball experience that captures the charm of the original while embracing contemporary gaming standards. The arcade-style classic is back with enhanced gameplay and new game modes, bringing the beloved franchise into a new era for both longtime fans and new players.

Players choose from 30 beloved Backyard kids to assemble their roster, assign positions and a batting order, and play in a world where there are no injuries. The game features 24 customizable team logos and 11 different fields—all reimaginings of the fields from the 1997 original Backyard Baseball—to choose from, as well as six different game modes. Among the new game modes is "Backyard Derby", a home run derby in which players have a time limit to hit as many home runs as possible.

The game uses 3D graphics for gameplay, distinguishing it visually from the original 2D titles while maintaining the franchise's signature aesthetic. A new feature is collectible in-game trading cards featuring artwork of the Backyard Kids and other elements of the game's universe by independent artists, unlocked from spending tokens which are only earned through playing the game with no microtransactions. Power-ups are back and crazier than ever, adding chaos and fun to every game.

The game offers something for players of any age and ability, with tutorials, accessibility features, and simple modes like T-ball making it the perfect intro to both baseball and gaming, while competitive modes give experienced players the chance to bunt, steal, and grind their way to victory. The game features online and local co-operative multiplayer, which are firsts for the Backyard Sports franchise.
