Aground is a resource-gathering and crafting survival RPG where you begin as a lone survivor stranded on an uninhabited island following a shipwreck. Starting with almost nothing, you must gather resources, craft tools, and build structures to establish a settlement. The core gameplay loop revolves around mining underground for ores and gems, harvesting surface resources like wood and stone, and using these materials to craft increasingly sophisticated items and buildings. As you progress, you unlock new technologies, meet NPCs who offer quests, and gradually expand your capabilities. The game distinguishes itself through its narrative-driven progression system—unlike open-ended survival games, Aground provides a clear overarching story and purpose for your crafting and building efforts. Rather than aimless resource gathering, each action contributes to specific goals that advance the plot. The game evolves from simple survival mechanics into a complex system featuring character development, technology trees, multiple biomes to explore, and eventually space travel and planetary exploration. Despite its 2D pixel art aesthetic and seemingly simple exterior, Aground hides substantial depth and surprises that unfold gradually as you play. The game appeals to players who enjoy crafting and progression systems but want guidance and narrative context, making it accessible to those who might find games like Minecraft overwhelming. It strikes a balance between casual accessibility and long-term engagement, with dozens of hours of content rewarding persistent players.
