Two of the sites we read first thing in the morning ran the same story on 27 August. GG.deals kept it short: Red Dead Redemption 2 is up to 82% off. AllKeyShop came at it from the other side, Xbox's own Game Pass Super Saver Sale, which is running right now and is also cutting Borderlands 3. Everything below is about the Xbox version of the game, the one for Xbox One and Series X|S.
Announcing a discount is the easy half. The hard half is telling you whether that discount is actually the cheapest way to end up with the game, because one shop cutting its own price proves nothing on its own. The Red Dead Redemption 2 Xbox key page holds 60 live offers across 16 stores, and we went through them one by one this morning.
The five cheapest offers are not copies
Sort the page by price and the top of it looks unbeatable: €7.99 at Difmark, then €8.37 and €8.85 at Kinguin, €11.34 at Kinguin again, €11.96 at G2A. All five are shared accounts. You sign into somebody else's account to play, and nothing ends up sitting in your own library. Some people are fine with that arrangement.
Most readers who write to us about this game are not, and the price sorting catches them every time. So the honest starting point is a little further down.
Eleven offers inside €1.76
The cheapest genuine Xbox key on the page is the one Eneba asks €12.23 for. What the other shops want is packed in right behind it: €12.49 at Kinguin, €12.56 at Eneba, €12.74 at Driffle, €12.75 at Gaming Dragons, €12.77 at Eneba again, €12.84 at Gamivo, €12.98 and €13.64 at HRKGame, €13.72 at Gameseal, €13.99 at Instant Gaming.
Eleven offers, eight different stores, €1.76 between the first and the last. That is what a resale market looks like once it has settled: every seller knows what the seller next door is charging, and nobody has room to undercut by more than a few cents. Hunting for the very cheapest of those eleven is not worth your afternoon. What is worth avoiding is paying four times as much for the same key, and this page gives you plenty of chances to do exactly that.
Right now the cheapest Xbox key is € (with coupon GCDKGamivo) at Gamivo. Both figures refresh on their own, so the shop you see may not be the one that was in front when this was written. It can also come out below every amount named above, because a handful of shops knock a voucher off at checkout and what you see below is what you actually pay.
Has the sale changed anything yet?
We keep our own record for this page: 3,386 price readings over six and a half years of tracking. It stores the lowest price on the page day by day, and August reads like this. From the 1st to the 28th it sat at €7.99 almost every day, with short dips — €5.62 on the 6th, €5.64 on the 7th and the 9th, €6.22 on the 10th, €6.29 on the 12th and 13th, €7.68 from the 20th to the 23rd. From the 24th to the 30th, €7.99 every single day, unmoved. July went much the same way: €7.99 for most of the month, a stretch between €6.21 and €6.36 from the 15th to the 29th, and a stray €5.25 on the 18th.
Put that next to the headline. A big sale is being announced and the floor of this page has not shifted by a cent in a week.
Where our history stops being useful
This is the part other comparison sites tend to skip. Our history saves the lowest price on the page without separating formats, and the lowest price here has been a shared account the whole time. That €5-to-€8 floor is an account floor. It is genuinely useful for one thing, which is seeing that the page has barely moved in a month, sale or no sale. It is no use at all as a promise that you will land an Xbox key at €5, because the keys have not been under €12 at any point.
The all-time low we have on file, €0.68, works the same way. It is real, it is years old, and it belongs in the trivia column rather than in your plans.

Ultimate, Special Edition and the offers with no explanation
The Ultimate Edition starts at €15.99 at Instant Gaming, with €16.30 at Gamivo and €16.49 at Cdkeys Com just behind. That is €3.76 more than the €12.23 asked for the cheapest standard Xbox key, and for most people it is the easiest call on the whole page. The Special Edition sits at €48.99 at Gamivo, the priciest offer here that still makes some kind of sense.
The rest of the top end makes none. There are Xbox keys for the same game at €53.99 (Playerland), €77.50 (Gamivo) and €87.98 (Difmark Digital Keys). Nothing separates them from the €12.23 one except the shop that posted them. With 60 offers side by side you spot that in two seconds. With a single shop open in a single tab, you do not.
If you have never played it, Metacritic has the game at 97. Around the €12 mark that is about as comfortable a recommendation as this page produces. The sensible move during the sale is the same as it was before it started: ignore the very top of the sorted page and start reading where the real keys start.
