Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc is 90% off on Steam: €1.99 for the Steam key, no fees, where our records show a normal Steam price of €19.99. It's a temporary discount, and we don't know exactly when it ends.
The timing suits anyone who has been meaning to try the series. The Nintendo Direct on 9 September gave Danganronpa 2x2 a release date, and that game is a remake of the second instalment, which raises a fair question about what to do with the rest of the trilogy.
Steam or a Steam gift: where to buy the first game
Steam's own copy is the only Steam key for Trigger Happy Havoc on our PC page, and at €1.99 it's also the cheapest key. You can pay a little less with a Steam gift at Gamivo: €1.48 with fees (€1.27 before fees) using the coupon GCDKGamivo, which is 51 cents cheaper.
A Steam gift is a copy you accept and keep in your Steam library, so you end up with the same game either way. Whether saving 51 cents is worth buying outside Steam is up to you.
Beyond that, resale stores aren't competing this time. Of the 12 live offers from 6 stores, 11 are Steam gifts, and after Gamivo they get far more expensive: G2A wants €18.85 with fees.
We've never tracked it this low. The previous lowest price for the key in our history was €7.99, before fees, during the Steam sale on 26 June. Danganronpa 2x2: release date and platforms
Danganronpa 2x2 comes out on 14 January on Switch, Switch 2, PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, where it will be available on Steam and Epic.
It's a remake of Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair with a new story mode added. That matters for your shopping, because the second game is exactly the one you might otherwise buy next.
Play Goodbye Despair now or wait for the remake?
There are two sensible ways to go, and which one suits you depends on how you like to play.
Play the first game now and wait for 2x2. You spend €1.99 on Trigger Happy Havoc today, and you meet the story of the second game for the first time in the remake in January, with its new story mode.
Play the original sequel now. It's reduced as well: Steam cut Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair from €19.99 to €9.99, no fees, on 10 September, and the cheapest Steam gift is €8.41 with fees at Gamivo. That puts the first two games at €11.98 bought from Steam with no fees, or €9.89 with fees as Gamivo gifts. It has been cheaper before, mind: our key history has a median of €16.11 and a lowest price of €5.57, both before fees. On Steam it's Overwhelmingly Positive, with 29,332 positive reviews out of 30,876, and 83 on Metacritic.
Some people like to see the original as it was before playing a new version of it; others would rather go into the remake without knowing what happens. Both routes start with the same €1.99 Steam purchase.
Where V3: Killing Harmony fits, and what all three cost
The third main game completes the set. In order, the numbered trilogy is Trigger Happy Havoc, Goodbye Despair and V3: Killing Harmony.
Steam also cut Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony on 10 September, from €33.99 to €10.19 with no fees, and that's the lowest key price we have on record for it. The cheapest Steam gift is €8.56 with fees at Gamivo. Its Steam reviews are Very Positive, 17,969 out of 21,913, and Metacritic gives it 80.
Buying all three from Steam comes to €22.17 with no fees. Taking the cheapest Steam gift for each one instead, the total drops to €18.45 with fees, a saving of €3.72.
