Quick verdict

The most complete version of Onimusha: Way of the Sword is the PC one, and on home consoles PS5 leads.

Best graphics experience PC ray tracing, ultrawide, 120 fps and DLSS 4.5 with FSR 3.1
Best console experience PS5 two modes, and both let you unlock the frame rate
Cheapest key PC the cheapest key, ahead of Xbox and PS5
Best on the go Switch 2 45 fps on average with Vsync off, best in handheld

Why PC wins

PC is the only one that does not lock you into a fixed mode: ray tracing, HDR, ultrawide, 120 FPS and upscaling with DLSS 4.5 and FSR 3.1, plus frame generation from both. We have no measurements of our own for this game yet, so we quote no graphics card figures here.

On PS5

PS5 gives you two modes, quality and performance, and both let you unlock the frame rate, even if the game stays close to its target. Performance mode touches several settings, but what you actually see is the drop in internal render resolution.

Switch 2 and Steam Deck

Switch 2 has a single mode and its trick is turning Vsync off: 45 FPS on average, best enjoyed in handheld. The price is terrain geometry and resolution. On similar settings, a Steam Deck runs slightly ahead.

For Xbox we have the official catalogue flags (4K, HDR, VRR, ray tracing, 60 FPS, Dolby Atmos and DTS:X), but no video analysis.

Onimusha: Way of the Sword on PS5 and Switch 2: graphics comparison

  • PS5 has two display modes: quality and performance.
  • Both let you unlock the frame rate, though the game stays close to its target either way.
  • Performance mode cuts several settings, but what you notice is the internal render resolution.
  • Switch 2 has a single mode. You can also turn Vsync off and settle at an average of 45 FPS, which pays off most in handheld.
  • Switch 2 handheld mode cuts mainly terrain geometry and resolution.
  • He puts its optimisation on a par with Resident Evil Requiem: each version has its limits, both are worth playing.

Onimusha: Way of the Sword on Switch 2 versus Steam Deck

  • The Steam Deck runs its default recommended configuration: low settings and FSR in performance mode.
  • Switch 2 still has a single mode, and with Vsync off it settles at an average of 45 FPS.
  • In handheld, Switch 2 cuts terrain geometry and resolution; the Steam Deck uses a similar graphics configuration.
  • With those settings the Steam Deck performs slightly above Switch 2.
  • In return, he finds the Steam Deck's resolution a little low even for its own screen.

Frequently asked questions about Onimusha: Way of the Sword

Which platform does Onimusha: Way of the Sword look best on?

PC, the only one with free resolution and quality. Ray tracing, HDR and 4K are declared on both PC and Xbox, and PC adds ultrawide, 120 FPS and upscaling with DLSS 4.5 and FSR 3.1.

How many graphics modes does the PS5 version have?

Two: quality and performance. Both let you unlock the frame rate, though the game stays close to its target. Performance cuts several settings and, above all, the internal render resolution.

How does the Switch 2 version run?

It has a single display mode. You can turn Vsync off to settle at an average of 45 FPS, which pays off most in handheld. The cuts are in terrain geometry and resolution.

Switch 2 or Steam Deck?

On the Steam Deck's default recommended configuration (low settings and FSR in performance mode), the Deck runs slightly ahead of Switch 2. The catch is its resolution, which the analysis calls a little low even for its own screen.

Does it have ray tracing?

Yes on PC, and the official Xbox catalogue declares it too. Nothing is published for PS5 or Switch 2.

What graphics card do I need on PC?

We do not know yet: we have no measurements of our own for this game, and we are not going to guess. What is confirmed is DLSS 4.5 and FSR 3.1 with frame generation, plus 120 FPS and ultrawide.

Can I change the field of view on PC?

No. PCGamingWiki marks it as unsupported, though widescreen and ultrawide resolutions are fine.

What does the Xbox version offer?

We have no video analysis of Xbox, only what the official catalogue declares: 4K, HDR, VRR, ray tracing, 60 FPS, Dolby Atmos and DTS:X, plus current-generation optimisation.

Which one is cheapest?

The cheapest key is on PC. Above it sit Xbox, PS5 and Switch 2. Prices move every day: the live ones are on each version’s page. Watch out for account offers, cheaper because they are not a purchase in your name.

Is a better version coming?

Nothing has been announced. What you see is what there is: PS5 with two modes, Switch 2 with one plus a Vsync toggle, and a PC version with the settings open.
