Quick verdict

The best version of Cyberpunk 2077 is on PC, and on console PS5 Pro leads.

Best graphics experience PC the only one with path tracing and RT reflections everywhere
Best console experience PS5 Pro performance mode averages 75-80 fps, up to 90 with VRR
Cheapest key Xbox 14.20 € against 22.20 € on PC and 49.99 € on PS5
Best handheld ROG Xbox Ally X 80 fps with FSR on medium-high; loads 3× faster than Switch 2

Why PC wins

PC is the only platform that runs path tracing, and that is the real gap: PS5 Pro cannot do it. PC also applies ray-traced reflections to every surface, while PS5 Pro restricts them to vehicles, some glass and water.

On console

On console PS5 Pro sets the bar. Its ray tracing Pro mode improves global illumination, shadows and reflections over the PS5 mode, performance mode averages 75-80 FPS and peaks at 90 with VRR, and the classic ray tracing mode targets 60. With PSSR, image quality at 1440p is level with DLSS.

Xbox and PS4

The Xbox build declares 4K, HDR, ray tracing, Dolby Atmos and 60 FPS in the official catalogue, and its key is the cheapest of the four platforms: 14.20 € against 22.20 € on PC. Performance mode holds 60 FPS, but patch 2.3 failed to unlock its frame rate, so quality and ray tracing stay at 30 FPS. Series S has no ray tracing mode at all. PS4 Pro is another story: dynamic 1188p at 30 FPS, frozen on patch 1.6.

It costs you: on the Ray Tracing preset only three of the six fastest cards we measured average more than 60 FPS, and you want an RTX 4090 (101-110 FPS) or an RTX 4080 (77-87) to be comfortable.

Cyberpunk 2077 on PS5 Pro versus PC: the ray tracing gap

  • The new ray tracing Pro mode on PS5 Pro adds ray-traced shadows, global illumination and some reflections.
  • Ray-traced shadows and reflections land very close to the highest PC settings.
  • Global illumination still favours PC, and with path tracing the gap widens further.
  • For the performance test he used an RTX 5060 Ti with settings close to the PS5 Pro, except ray-traced reflections, which PC applies to every surface.
  • On that footing PS5 Pro runs slightly ahead of the card with frame generation off. The RTX 5060 Ti, however, can run path tracing and PS5 cannot.
  • At 1440p, PSSR and DLSS are pretty much level on image quality.

Cyberpunk 2077 on PS5 versus PS5 Pro: what the Pro patch changes

  • The PS5 Pro patch brings PSSR and an improved ray tracing mode.
  • PSSR clearly beats FSR 2.1 on image quality, above all in performance mode.
  • Ray tracing Pro improves global illumination, reflections and shadows over the PS5 ray tracing mode.
  • Shadows gain render distance and precision; global illumination improves in open areas, mostly through ambient occlusion.
  • Ray-traced reflections only cover vehicles, some translucent glass and water. Metal surfaces and puddles stay on SSR.
  • The classic ray tracing mode now targets 60 FPS on PS5 Pro, and performance mode reaches 90 FPS with VRR, averaging 75-80.

Cyberpunk 2077 on ROG Xbox Ally X, Switch 2 and Steam Deck

  • ROG Xbox Ally X runs the game at higher settings and hits 80 FPS with FSR on medium-high.
  • FSR does not hold up like DLSS at low resolutions such as 1080p, so Switch 2 ends up looking better even from a lower native resolution.
  • Between Steam Deck and ROG Xbox Ally X the gap is close to generational.
  • He suggests turning frame generation on above 40 FPS and never below 35: if the game cannot reach 35-40 FPS natively, drop settings instead.
  • Load times are three times faster on ROG Xbox Ally X than on Switch 2, and slightly better than Steam Deck.

Cyberpunk 2077 with VRR: PS5, PS5 Pro, Xbox Series and Switch 2

  • Patch 2.3 adds VRR support on PS5, PS5 Pro and Xbox Series S/X.
  • The big winner is PS5 Pro: an 80 FPS average with VRR in performance mode.
  • In ray tracing mode the frame rate is locked to 40 FPS. PS5 Pro holds it with no trouble; PS5 stumbles here and there.
  • Xbox Series S/X does not unlock the frame rate properly because of a bug, so it stays at 30 FPS in quality and ray tracing modes and 60 FPS in performance mode.
  • The Xbox performance test will be run again once the fix lands.
  • Nintendo Switch 2 saw no meaningful performance gains from this patch.

Cyberpunk 2077 on Switch 2 against PS4 Pro, Xbox Series S and PS5

  • PS4 Pro runs at dynamic 1188p (commonly 1080-972p) and 30 FPS.
  • Xbox Series S upscales with FSR to 1440p at 30 FPS in quality mode, and to 1080p at 60 FPS in performance mode.
  • PS5 upscales with FSR to 2160p: 30 FPS in ray tracing from 1800-1440p, and 60 FPS in performance from 1620-1080p.
  • Switch 2 upscales with DLSS to 1080p at 30 FPS in quality and 1080p at around 40 FPS in performance while docked; handheld, performance mode drops to 720p.
  • Despite rendering at a lower resolution, Switch 2 matches PS4 Pro and Xbox Series S on image quality thanks to DLSS.
  • Xbox Series S gives up ambient occlusion quality in performance mode, while Switch 2 keeps it and also shows better textures.
  • Load times on Switch 2 are twice as fast as on PS4 Pro, but twice as slow as on PS5 and Xbox Series S.

Cyberpunk 2077 after patch 2.0 on PS5, Xbox Series and PC

  • Every console version has two modes: ray tracing and performance on PS5 and Series X, quality and performance on Series S, which has no ray tracing.
  • Xbox Series S: dynamic 1440p (commonly 1260p) at 30 FPS in resolution mode, and dynamic 1080p (972p) at 60 FPS in performance.
  • Xbox Series X: 1440p at 30 FPS in ray tracing and dynamic 1800p (1620p) at 60 FPS in performance.
  • PS5: 1440p at 30 FPS in ray tracing and dynamic 1800p (1512p) at 60 FPS in performance, slightly below the Series X average.
  • Performance mode holds 60 FPS fairly steadily, with the odd drop, on all three platforms.
  • The ray tracing mode on PS5 and Series X only adds ray-traced shadows: no reflections and no global illumination.
  • On PC the video uses RT Overdrive, which swaps ray tracing for path tracing and is only recommended on RTX 40 series cards with DLSS 3.5.

Frequently asked questions about Cyberpunk 2077

Which platform does Cyberpunk 2077 look best on?

PC. It is the only one that runs path tracing, and the distance to PS5 Pro there is obvious. It also applies ray-traced reflections to every surface, while PS5 Pro limits them to vehicles, some translucent glass and water.

What does PS5 Pro add over PS5?

Two things: PSSR instead of FSR 2.1, which lifts image quality noticeably in performance mode, and a ray tracing Pro mode with better global illumination, longer shadow render distance and extra reflections.

How many frames does it hit on PS5 Pro?

Performance mode averages 75-80 FPS and peaks at 90 with VRR. The classic ray tracing mode targets 60 FPS, and locks to 40 if you enable it at 120 Hz with VRR. Those are figures from the video analysis, not our own measurement.

Is PSSR as good as DLSS here?

At 1440p they are pretty much level on image quality. On PC you also get DLSS 4, FSR up to version 4 and XeSS 2.0, with frame generation from all three.

What graphics card do I need on PC?

It depends how much ray tracing you want. On the Ray Tracing preset, of the cards we measured the RTX 4090 runs at 101-110 FPS, the RTX 4080 at 77-87 and the RTX 4070 Ti at 61-69. An RTX 4070 sits at 51-58 and an RTX 3080 Ti at 51-57. We have measured 31 cards on this game.

Does PS5 support VRR?

Yes, since patch 2.3. With VRR the performance mode average goes up and the ray tracing mode can be pinned to 40 FPS at 120 Hz.

How many frames does it hit on Xbox Series?

Performance mode holds 60 FPS fairly steadily, with the odd drop, on both Series S and Series X. Quality and ray tracing modes run at 30. Patch 2.3 added VRR on Xbox too, but a bug keeps the frame rate from unlocking properly, so those are the figures for now.

Can I play it on a handheld?

Yes. On ROG Xbox Ally X it reaches 80 FPS with FSR on medium-high settings, and loads three times faster than Switch 2. Between Steam Deck and Ally X the gap is close to generational. The advice from the analysis: only turn frame generation on above 40 FPS.

What does the Xbox catalogue declare?

4K, HDR, ray tracing, 60 FPS, Dolby Atmos and current-generation optimisation. It does not declare 120 FPS or VRR.

What about the PS4 version?

PS4 Pro runs at dynamic 1188p (commonly 1080-972p) and 30 FPS, with a frame rate less consistent than Switch 2's. It is also frozen: it stopped getting updates after patch 1.6. In our comparison it only shows one account offer, at 8.38 €.

Which one is cheapest?

The cheapest key is on Xbox, at 14.20 €. On PC the key is 22.20 € and on PS5 it climbs to 49.99 €. Watch the account offers, much cheaper (5.40 € on Xbox, 5.99 € on PC) because they are not a purchase in your name.
