Conarium is free with Prime until 11 November: how to claim it on GOG, or get it on Steam for pennies

Prime members can claim Conarium on GOG via Amazon Luna until 11 November. Without Prime, the Steam Key costs €0.31 with fees this morning.

Amazon Luna has released its second batch of free PC games for October, and Prime members get two: Conarium and WarBreeds, a sci-fi RTS from the late 90s. Conarium is the one worth your time, but there is a detail to know before you click. It is delivered as a GOG code. You have until 11 November to claim it.

No Prime, or want the game in your Steam library? There is a cheap way round that too. This morning the cheapest Steam Key was €0.30 with the Gocdkeys coupon at Difmark Digital Keys (€0.31 with fees).

How to claim Conarium with Prime

You need an Amazon account with Prime and a GOG account. If you don't have a GOG account yet, it is free and takes a couple of minutes to set up.

  1. Go to the Amazon Luna website and sign in with your Prime account.
  2. Find Conarium among this month's free games and click "Get Game".
  3. Copy the code Luna gives you.
  4. Open GOG's code redemption page and sign in.
  5. Paste the code and confirm. Conarium is added to your GOG library, ready to download.

After 11 November the code can no longer be claimed. Once redeemed, though, the game stays in your GOG account.

What a GOG copy means in practice

GOG sells its games without DRM. You download the installer, keep it wherever you like and install the game without a client checking your licence every time you play. The catch, if your whole collection lives on Steam, is that this copy is tied to your GOG account and will not show up in your Steam library.

Without Prime: the Steam version costs less than a coffee

Steam sells Conarium for €19.50 (no fees) and it isn't discounted right now. The key shops are a different story. After Difmark come Kinguin, at €0.72 with OCTGOC10 (€1.13 with fees), and Instant Gaming, at €1.29 (no fees), both also selling a global Steam Key.

Some context for those 31 cents. Until today, our price history for this game had a median of €2.11 and a low of €2.00, both without fees or coupons. Even before the coupon, Difmark's offer stands at €0.36 this morning. We have never recorded a lower price for Conarium.

What kind of game Conarium is

It is a psychological horror adventure inspired by H. P. Lovecraft's At the Mountains of Madness. You play Frank Gilman, a scientist who wakes up with almost no memories in an abandoned research base in Antarctica. There is no combat. You explore, solve puzzles and move at a slow, deliberate pace, and it takes about four to five hours to finish. The publisher is Iceberg Interactive.

Steam reviews are "Mostly Positive", with 1,446 positive out of 1,903, and its critic score on Metacritic is 71.

Is Luna worth the bother at 31 cents?

If you already pay for Prime and don't mind GOG, yes. It takes five minutes and costs you nothing extra. If you would rather have it on Steam, 31 cents saves you a second account and a library split across two stores.

Prefer to wait for something else? Set a price alert and we will email you when the price drops. Every offer, fees included, is on the page to buy Conarium key.

Prices checked on the morning of 10 October.
