Scarlet Deer Inn is an embroidered dark medieval folk tale where life in a seemingly ordinary village is all about simple chores and idle gossip, but sinister secrets hide below. You play Elise, a shy farm girl who, after losing her parents, moves with relatives who run a reputable inn, taking care of many activities around the inn, meeting unusual travelers with their stories, and exploring the town and its surroundings while dealing with your fears and inner demons in your sleep.

The game features beautiful hand-painted backgrounds and traditional animations crafted from physically embroidered frames. Each block of animation is first created on a sewing machine before being transferred to the digital world. Folk music inspired by the Middle Ages is performed on traditional instruments. This is a story-driven exploration platformer game about facing inner demons.

Player reports place Scarlet Deer Inn around 3 to 6 hours for a full playthrough, with some variation based on exploration and missed optional content. Hidden shortcuts in the dark make each walkthrough easier. The only thing protecting you from certain death is your torch. The game also has some simple stealth mechanics.

The game is inspired by medieval Europe and Slavic folklore, while the creators also refer to The Witcher as an inspiration. It won a Best Art Award at Game Access '24. The game fits players who want atmospheric 2D platforming, simple exploration, and a compact experience, with reviews consistently praising the art, soundtrack, and mood.
