MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries - Chaos Reign continues the Inner Sphere's struggle three years after the Clans' invasion and the truce of Tukayyid. ComStar's betrayal and the assassination of Archon Melissa Steiner have shattered the fragile unity of the major factions. As mercenary Commander Jake Mason, you uncover critical Clan intelligence that could reshape the balance of power, setting the stage for a new campaign of cinematic story missions and multi-mission questlines.

The expansion deepens the core gameplay loop of MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries, where you command a lance of customizable BattleMechs across destructible battlefields. Manage your mercenary company's finances, pilot assignments, and mech maintenance between contracts. Each mission demands tactical positioning, heat management, and coordinated lance tactics—whether you're executing precision strikes or defending key positions. The new Guerrilla Warfare mission type introduces concurrent objectives on a single map, allowing you to extract after the primary goal or push deeper for additional rewards at escalating risk.

Chaos Reign adds substantial mechanical depth with ten new BattleMech chassis, including the versatile Sunder OmniMech and Clan variants like the Night Gyr and Ebon Jaguar. New weapon types, ground vehicles, and battle armor-equipped infantry expand tactical options and enemy variety. Enhanced jump jet vector thrusting grants unprecedented mid-air mobility, fundamentally changing how you approach terrain and engagement ranges. A revamped 'Mech database lets you track chassis variants discovered across missions.

This expansion distinguishes itself by directly continuing the narrative of the original BattleTech animated series, delivering closure to decades-old story threads while maintaining the sandbox depth that separates MechWarrior 5 from linear competitors. The Inner Sphere map now spans 3051-3058, reflecting the historical Chaos March period with updated faction territories and conflict zones.

Chaos Reign targets players seeking substantial story content and mechanical progression within MechWarrior 5's established framework. It rewards both campaign-focused players pursuing narrative missions and sandbox veterans building long-term mercenary dynasties. Requires the base game MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries.
