Dead Weight is a tactical roguelite that combines steampunk adventure with turn-based combat on procedurally generated floating islands. You command a flying pirate ship, selecting your vessel before each expedition and assembling a crew to explore dangerous skies in search of loot and glory. The core gameplay loop revolves around resource management—managing fuel, recruiting companions, and gathering equipment—while navigating random events, hidden locations, and the mounting effects of fatigue and madness on your crew.

Combat takes place on compact, isometric battlefields where positioning and careful planning determine victory. Inspired by Into the Breach and Final Fantasy Tactics, every step matters in these tight tactical encounters. You develop four distinct characters through individual skill trees and equipment combinations, allowing for varied playstyles and strategic depth. Late-game crises can reshape the final stages of a run, keeping each expedition unpredictable and replayable.

The game's dark fantasy setting draws from Lovecraftian themes, pitting you against Ancient Gods awakened from eternal sleep. The pixel-art visual style reinforces the atmospheric steampunk world, creating a cohesive aesthetic that balances whimsy with danger. Character progression is meaningful—your choices in crew composition and build customization directly impact how you approach encounters.

Dead Weight targets players who appreciate roguelikes with genuine tactical depth and those seeking alternatives to mainstream turn-based RPGs. The combination of exploration, crew management, and unforgiving combat creates a challenging experience that rewards planning and adaptation. With over 120,000 Steam wishlists at announcement, the game has resonated with the turn-based tactics community.
